Sauvie was awesome today. Wind was perfect for a 10m or so kite, maybe a little larger if you like to be lit up. There is enough beach now that you only have to wade out to your calves to launch. There didn't seem to be any fishermen today but yesterday (the 4th) they were out in force.

That's where they all were! I was at Jones yesterday afternoon and there were only 4 fishermen on the whole beach! There were only about 8 ATVers and I was the only kiter. It was kind of eerie being so empty on a sunny 4th. They must have partied too hard at the beginning of the weekend..............

For sure. I saw someone walking upwind yesterday and I told him not to bother. If you end up in the water for more than a minute you will move far enough upwind. If I remember right I actually saw Steve walking downwind to start his a session.

The current is nice and straight so you don't have to worry about eddies or anything but it's darn fast.

Yep you did see me walking down wind to start a sesh last night. I didn't want to run the slingy 8M RPM near-shore acrobatics gauntlet while trying to get off the beach for one thing Smile.

Plus my biggest challenge (well one of them anyway) was staying downwind on my skim with a 10M. The combination of the strong current and trying to keep an edge on the skim made me rocket upwind. I'd start out each sesh doing a straight downwinder of 100-200M but after just one tack and I'd be back to the main beach and I'd have to repeat the downwinder!

Gman was making it look like cake with his 8M and a skim, so it had to just be the kite size and not my skill set, right? Lol.

Is the current such that a kook should worry, or just stay close in like was previously mentioned?

I was at Jones last weekend, and didn't find it too bad, but don't want to get caught in a situation I can't handle...

Top 10 things to worry about at SI:

1: Skunkage (ie no wind or not enough or wrong direction)
2: Big Ships
3: Car Break-ins
4: Broken glass
5: Half buried diaper ball mounds
6: Redneck fishermen
7: Crowded beaches filled with clueless kiter folk ie they don't know the dangers of powered-up kites etc
8: Crowded beaches filled with clueless newbie kiters that don't know the dangers of powered-up kites.
9: Close encounters/sightings of naked people that should be clothed.
10: NOT BRINGING ENOUGH TRUCK DRIVER COLD BEER FOR YOU AND ALL YOUR KITER FRIENDS.
