I will be in Malaysia this late summer and early fall, mostly Kuala Lumpur. Should I bring my kite gear? Anyone have info on kiting this area? _________________ DSC, Certified Wind Gypsy |

was in KL and Singapore quite a bit in 06/07. Was windy a fair amount, didn't have gear and took note of it every windy minute that passed. Singapore had a cable park that was a fun alternative, but not like kiting. Oh ya, KL & Singapore pack some hotties in too yo. So, go international on your pimp status, and take your gear. |

I visited a resort about an hour North of Singapore about 8 years ago. There was a dude with his Wipika stuck high up in a tree on the beach. I don't know if he ever managed to get it down. The wind was marginal. I do know they windsurf in Singapore, but it is big board/big sail kind of wind. |

Btw, if anyone ever makes it to Taiwan in the Fall, there is a killer place for kiting. The strait between mainland China and Taiwan is one of the windiest places in the Northern Hemisphere. The place to go is Peng Hu island. There is an Australian guy, Alex Mowday, who runs a windsurfing/kiting shop there that is super cool and will show you the ropes. I had a blast there both times I went and had blasting wind every day. |

I get to Singapore a lot... To be honest, I've never seen any reason to bring kites there. There are some islands nearby that are probably pretty good though. ( About an hour by ferry. ) I haven't been to KL in years, since before I kited. (2001 or so ) My guess is there will be some spots nearby worth going to, if you've got the time to travel a bit. The cable park in Singapore is a kick in the ass.
Be aware about the danger in Malaysia though. Once you get away from the major tourist/urban spots, there are a lot of assholes that would love to ruin your day. I crossed the river from Singapore into Malaysia a few years ago. I won't post on a public forum what I had to do to get back to Singapore. Four assholes thought kidnapping an American would be a good idea. I had to educate them otherwise. Worst experience of my life. Of course, it was even worse for several of them. I got real lucky. |

Lived there for 2 and a half years. No real wind to speak of-thats why outdoor badminton is a national sport. Of course does get windy when "storms" come through with the monsoon rain. |
