When i was last up there a month ago one of the bartenders told me it got voted down. SEcond hand info, take it for what its worth. If it did get voted down, I'd bet that it'll be back up for consideration. Maybe TL isn't offering forestry or whoever the governing body is enough dough or whatever it takes to make something like this happen. SkiBowl is still fun

TL's site has a link to a forest service page w/ open projects. Here is the link for the TL mountain bike park project. If someone has time to read all of this and post the cliff notes that would be cool.

A good friend is running this effort for Timberline. It is currently stalled and awaiting approval by the Forest Service. The story I heard was that the person at the FS that was managing the project has moved within their organization and no one has been assigned to replace her. As such, it is in limbo with the Forest Service.
Timberline seems to have many of the pieces in place once they are given the green light (including hiring Gravity Logic to put in the first few trails). However, I'm not holding my breath that it will happen.....the environmental groups are pretty well organized and they are not in favor of the project. Boo.

Yea, but the fact of the matter is that its already an impacted area and the Forest Service has a record of leveraging already impacted areas to create recreational opportunities. The Hood River Sandbar vs the Lyle Sandbar is case in point. There is a damn highway running up the mountain BTW. The environmental groups are not going to be able to provide significant evidence of environmental impact over what's already being/been impacted.

I'm with you Forest. I submitted several emails to the Forest Service when they were accepting public comments. I would love to have a bike park in our back yard (it would save me from having to drive to Whistler - which I am doing this Thursday).
All I'm saying is that I wouldn't go out and buy a big bike to ride at Timberline........

....from the Gravity Logic website: "Timberline Lodge in Oregon is also getting in the game and our team is there right now designing twenty-two kilometers of hard flagged trails and a further 8 kilometers of future trail corridors. With super flowing terrain, Mount Hood as backdrop and Portland near, this bike park is going to thrive. Construction will hopefully start next year."

I was actually thinking of calling the FS the other day to check the progress. While their was one very vocal group opposed to the plan (the friends of mt.hood) they really don't have much of a leg to stand on. Timberline did a fantastic job completing their environmental assessment documentation. I couldn't attend but I heard the public meeting for the project has jam packed. There were tons of bikers and local business owners that were stoked to have the park happen. They also received 1000,s of comments in favor of the park.
Being an environmental consultant and having read the documentation I really don't see any big holes in the project that would cause it to get denied. I think the biggest challenge for the park is going to be dealing with the soil on the mt. That some at the gravity logic group have called "moon dust". Good soil is key, The whistler trails are soft in the spring but once the compacted and dry out, they are like concrete. Which may not sound great but they are smooth, fast, and durable.
Forrest, join the downhill revolution .....

Gene is going to give me shit for this, but Norco's are nice bikes, but there are better options out there for a dedicated downhill sled. Although I think the specialized Demos are damn ugly, they have been really popular and apparently corner like they are on rails.
Of course if you want to be a stud, get a cove.

Don't listen to the monkey! He's just jealous cuz our bikes weigh less. I dunno what the "best" bikes are out there, but I know that my Norcos are damn fun and I got great deals on em. My advice would be to find a good bike for a good price and go for it. There's enough good bikes out there now that you don't have to pay an extra couple grand just for a slight improvement. Oh, and try before you buy if you can. That's always great if you can swing it.
Hey Brian, have you ever tried one of the Norcos you seem to know so much about?

Good to hear MonkeyBoy. I'll be taking a few spin's on Gene's Team DH before I pull any triggers. At this point though, I want to build a garage more than I want a new bike so that's just how it has to be.

You should try Brian's Cove Shocker too if he's out in da Hood. Then you can get a direct comparison. I didn't notice a huge difference riding the two at Whistler, but it wasn't on the same day. I did feel like the 2011 Fox 40 is a bit more plush than the 2010 Marzocchi 888 fork, but that makes sense and can be upgraded later if necessary.
