Offshore winds all day off the lake. Not sure how that translates into kiting.

Yep, Pacific coast is pretty much off shore all the time but the lakes are fun and fairly consistent.

Here's the low down.

I spent a few days in Nicaragua looking at property on the west coast and consuming abnormally large amounts of adult beverages. I really like Nicaragua, because, it is relatively untouched by tourist and I'd have no problem retiring down there some day. I was on the west coast mostly north of Puerto Sandino(which is mentioned in the blog) in Salinas Grande and Las Penitas. It was not windy in Salinas Grande, but, based on the shape of the vegetation, the prevailing winds appeared to be onshore. Las Penitas had 14m side-on conditions.

I stayed at a place in Las Penitas that later became a Best shop for a little while. I would have been surprised if it was ever successful. there is just not enough money floating around there of spending on recreational equipment

I saw good winds on Lake Managua, but, I was told that it was polluted to the point that you should not go in the water. I have no way of knowing if it was true.

I also included a pic of my accommodations in Las Penitas. It had a certain "jail cell with a mattress" ambiance to it. That is the same place that had the best shop. it was new construction to, but, this did not mean that the shower actually worked.

We went to the corn islands for almost a month late December, had great steady wind every day. Very remote islands, great people, vibe and amazing scenery.

You can find some decent side shore winds on Ometepe island in the middle of Lake Nicaragua. Otherwise Caribbean side (including Corn Islands) is probably your best Nica bet.

I met a guy on a recent trip to Hatteras who is avid surfer/kitesurfer. He has been to Nicauragua for a few years as his buddy is opening a surf resort somewhere there. he told me he has looked high and low for a kite-wave spot and that it sucks for kiting (waves) but is a mecca for surfers....
