Hello Pearl Harbor!
I'm leaving Charleston, SC for my next few years based in Pear Harbor, Hawaii.
Anyone got some good tips for kiting/living in Oahu?
Also, I'm driving cross country up to the Gorge.
Going to hit up New Orleans, Phoenix, and LA, but I'm trying to piece together the rest of the trip.
Would like to stop at a cable park in Texas if possible and do some kiting up the Cali coast.
If anyone has any don't miss stuff to do, places I should eat, etc, let me know
Bye bye chucktown, you've been so good to me...

I traveled from Vancouver, WA to South Padre Island last winter and the Caverns were the best part of the trip next to SPI. Not too far off I-10 if you are going that way. Mind blowing, unbelievable. Kind of the extreme opposite to kiting out in open waters. Not to be missed if you have the time. _________________ I may be old, but I am slow |

New Orleans, hit up Frenchman Street. Lots of cool bars all right together there and it's way better than the whole Bourbon St. bullshit. Walking distance too. It's right on the other side of the French Market across Esplanade. I've stayed in the Frenchman Hotel right there quite a few times. Also if you want to get away from all the crazy shit ride the free ferry at the aquarium across the river and go check out some of the local bars on Algiers Point.
Good Times,
Andy |

Congrats Nuke Dude,
If you get to central Cali you got to hit Yosemite Valley. This place rocks, literally
And that place that Forest mentioned is awesome by you are not likely to get a camping spot. You might get one if you show up on a monday. But other than that GOOD LUCK! |

Cool!
Don't forget to hit the Grand Canyon!
Pearl!!!
I wouldn't do it your whole tour, but consider living in a rented room in Lanikai for a time. Kind of a long commute, but you used to be able to find a room pretty cheap. Sometimes it's a one room cottage or a room over a garage. Living on base or in town won't give you the same "laid back Island feel".
Get checked out on the boats at the Kaneohe Marine Base. Flat water goodness awaits you at the sand bar!!!!! $60 bucks for four hours, so get some buds to share the cost. |

Kailua is far preferable for quality of life, easy drive over to pearl. Lots to do and none of it is secret, enjoy.
Yes see the grand canyon, it will be too hot to hike.
yes yosemite, camp outside the park on the way to hetch hetchy, forest service land, near Evergreen lodge. Do a hike in the park, the crowds go away fast. Main hike up toward half dome is a zoo, go early.
Go see some giant sequoyas...we did a short hike to some up near Evergreen Lodge, no crowds, very impressive.
Cali...Go north, wine country, hwy 101, humbolt vibe, cresent city surf, up the coast from there to Pistol river, flores lake, so. oregon coast is super cool.
Da Gorge, of course, got small kite? Everything is here
Have fun |
