Are there any short-notice $40-dollar hotels in the Manzanita area? I have to drive a bit to get there, and would like to find a way to stay affordably. What's the cheapest spot? |

No but Nahalem Bay campground is on the south end of town and you can walk over the dune from your camp site and kite. I do that a lot with my family. Manzania is really small. Might be some b and b's. There is a motel right off the beach but I have never stayed there. |

Bring your sleeping bag and at sundown head down the beach and find a nice quiet place in the dunes. Remember to gear up like you are in the mountains. Coastal nights are cold even in the summer. |

Stayed at the Surf Inn (I think that's the name) on the main drag for $80 a couple times.....pretty basic place--like 1.5 Stars on a good day.
Hearing the pounding surf while dreaming of tomorrow's Session was a good nite cap.
Could of totally poached the beach next to a fire, but the ole lady is a bit cold-blooded. All too typical females, LOL! _________________ Snapflugen de kinder spietzel. |

Can you make reservations for the Nehalem campground or is it first come, first serve? Does it usually fill up? I want to bring the family out there this summer. |

Summer is usally booked solid at the campground...in the last few years more so than ever.. Youd want to make a rez for sure... and you can but it must be at least a few days in advance.
Not too many options close to the beach. not for $40... there are a couple dives in Wheeler and they used to rent rooms on top of the bunk house restaurant. |

As windsurfers many years ago we used to drive up into the hills on forest service roads. Seems like there was a free county park up there to sleep, and I know that it almost always had 6-8 fellow windsurfers slumming it. _________________ CGKA Member

Ok, how about this. Crash in the rig - the public restroom in manzo is open 24 hours. |

it's before the 4th of July so the sunset surf inn has been pretty desolate too. there's a few campgrounds in seaside as well. |

Great point.
Hey guys, let's make sure we clean up after ourselves to keep a good impression with locals and the authorities.
Also, if you see someone elses trash, pick it up too.
