Mon May 30, 11 5:18 am Event Site- after landing MOVE KITE to eastern section |
|
|
Someone nicely reminded me a couple days ago once I'd landed at the Event site to move my kite to the east end.
When it was crankin', after catching a few hot incoming kites yesterday (in the green area noted below) it crystalized for me why equipment needs to be moved-over quickly. I observed and caught 5 kiters in-a-row who landed in a semi-sketch way in-part because the catcher/rover was forced to skirt/jump/straddle relaxing kites lounging in the landing zone. The landing grass was a cluttered mess, not unlike the last sentence that you've just read.
As any gripped kiter knows, when trying to land depowered (but with the kite still pulling fairly hard), it becomes critical that the kite catcher can make the grab. Besides, even when the kite's perfectly placed, Bill Buckner moments can still occur. See Exhibit B.
As a practical matter, if you're catching, and especially on a windy day when catching at the Event site, let's nicely remind the good-peoples who've just landed to move it on over. Besides, there's self interest involved too. The Golden God's gift of eluding-to proves instructive here...you know what I'm talkin' about. See Exhibit C;

The Event Site is like a carrier deck: land it hot and get your kit wrapped up and out of the way.
This isn't windsurfing, it's kiting...right?

Thanks for the post. Well stated and straight to the point.
The carrier landing deck is one of the best metaphors I've heard yet.
Thank you to all who helped this weekend to keep our access at the Event Site as safe and sane as possible.
Those of you who were willing to step up and help give launch/landing advice are the ones who made this weekend and who will make the following weekends successful for us kiters.
You guys/gals know who you are and you are appreciated.
Thank you
Pepi
