PostSun May 22, 11 1:10 pm    Event Site Extended Season... Reply with quote

Folks sending this from my iPhone in full daylight so please excuse my grammar. To the point, I was just contacted by the CGWA with a cc of a response they received from what appears to be the CGKA with regard to extending the Event Site season. In a nut shell, it did not play well. If our letter was intended to gain clarity and safety for all I applaud and agree with that, but that's not how the letter reads if it was indeed the intent. Can an informal meeting over a cup of Joe resolve any missunderstanding?

Folks, let's keep it really simple. The CGWA on their own initiative wants to share the Event Site with us for a few more weeks. Let's keep it simple and honor both their offer and spirit of community. I would encourage a CGKA officer to contact the CGWA via phone, or in person at their earliest convenience.

Please....

Regards to all,
Eric Cohn

Eric why not just contact Pepi, Adam (97231), Forrest, Mike (Nak), Tom (Rollo) or one of the other board members directly.

No need to post hear say on the forum till you find out whats going on from both sides

Kind of a strange post, as the CGKA had only been informed of the proposal via email on Friday evening.

In response we asked to meet with the CGWA to ask about details for how this new offer would be set up, what guidelines there were for signage/space designation and how the spacing was determined (if it included an understanding that there was a greater number of kiters now including all locals, visitors and kite schools requiring safe launch access on the waterfront).
*the last part is a request most likely for more space to allow for actual safe launch/landing access. For the plan to work safely, space is required as a necessity.

The plan is to meet on Monday to learn more about the proposal and how it is going to work.

Not sure about how this does not 'play well'?

Maybe somebody PM me or one of the other CGKA BOD to fill us in.

Everyone relax please. All will be well. The Event Site can be problematic for launching. It's bit even some advanced kiters in the ass. We just want to make sure it will be as safe as possible so we don't immediately lose access to it for another decade.

BTW, Eric, I'm curious why you were contacted rather than the CGKA representative who sent the email?

It's all good in the hood now.

Total email miscommunication and it just took this morning's meeting to clear everything up and realize we are all on the same page and all would like the same results.

The preservation and improvement of access for all windsport users is the main objective and both the CGKA and CGWA are working together more and more each day to develop and improve relations in areas where we both like to play.

Sometimes airing dirty laundry helps get it cleaned up faster.

Thanks
Pepi

I believe that decision will be made at the Port meeting Tuesday evening.

DMac, hold off launching at the Event site until the Port gives permission to do so.

I am on the board of the CGWA and a CGKA member, so I see both sides. I think it's imperitave that we wait for the Ports rulings and not jump the gun.

Dave

Just a side note. I launched from the Marina last night and it was great! Easy set up, easy launching, and even a one man peanut gallery.

For the time being lets use the Marina and the SPIT.

Cheers,

Nick.

Am happy to use the Marina, am very grateful for all the work that went into making that a legit launch spot. Great foresight. Kudos!

However, the 'word on the street' is that the Event site is currently "ok". I expect there will be increasing numbers of riders there as this week goes on, and certainly by the holiday weekend there will be great pressure to use it like the pre-May situation.

so...once the decision has been made tonight, you/we need to do some proactive advertising.

Right, it's not approved "YET" so everyone hold off. We'll know tonight!

Word on the street is that if you launch there before we obtain permission, you will blow it for the other 99.9% of the kite community that is following the rules and hoping for this opportunity to become a reality.

*Note to the 3 kiters who have been launching from the Event Site when it is not allowed - PLEASE STOP!! Your actions have been seen and noted by Port Officials and do not set a good example for the Kite community.

This is not a 'done deal'. The CGWA is 'proposing' to the Port of HR that they allow kiteboarding a fair amount of temporary access at the Event Site for launching and landing.
The Port of HR will be making the decision tonight if this is a done deal or not.

The CGKA will be in attendance to support the CGWA proposal to the Port of HR Commissioners.

Don't blow it for everyone else. We are doing a lot of good here and it is not fast or easy work. It takes time to earn respect and develop relationships in the community.

Patience is a virtue and virtue is the pathway to bliss.a

Kites will be allowed to launch from the eastern half of the Event site for a limited time, check Port website for details.
Launching at the Marina will also continue to be allowed for a limited time.

Please be aware that these openings are conditional on kiters being extremely diligent about safety. Any careless landing and launching could result in revocation of these privileges.

Tight lines,

We're all waiting on an official announcement from the Port. I guess jaksavage is official enough. Smile
