Thu May 19, 11 5:28 pm Painting a Kiteboard |
|

I nearly lost my Lunacy the other day at Stevenson. (Thanks tons to Paul for retrieving it! ) I quickly lost site of the white bottom, it blended in way too well with all of the white chop. I want to paint the bottom Lime green like some of the newer boards, but I'm unsure what paint to use or prep work needed. I don't want to fizz can it; I have a gun & compressor. Anyone have any experience painting boards? What holds up well?
Thanks!! |

sand it lightly..make sure it is SUPER clean..as in completely. Once you've cleaned it, don't even touch it with bare hands..any oil will make it easier to fail, use acrylic paint. I've had more good experiences with non-oil based. Make sure it is completely dry before adding layers, and then a glossy blank layer on top. THen wetsand with 1600 sand paper to even out and gloss it.
btw. I'm no expert, but I've used that formula with success. I've tried other things with less success. |

Another option is to just paint the fins bright orange - I did this to my wife's white board and it really seemed to help. |

Every board I have has some of the top and bottom surfaces sprayed with safety orange.
No need to sand or prep your board. Just spray a fat circle on it with surveyors marking paint.
Not only does it make your board super visible, but its easy to scrub off if need be. One application will usually last the whole season before it needs a touch up. _________________ Lets FLY |

I used to just spray paint my boards and it worked just fine.
If you do the fins in a super bright color that helps a ton and still keeps the resale of the board _________________ Join the CGKA! Membership is only $10! Sign up at http://cgka.net/become-a-member/ |

Thanks everybody!
I'm going to try to paint the whole bottom & make it look good. I need to touch up a few dents anyway... |
