Yeah you can camp. There are spots in the trees if you beat the atv guys there. If not pick anywhere. There is also a flat spot at very west end past the wood wave breaker jetty. Just make sure it's not a 9 ft high tide that night

I have not forecast wind at Jones for a few years but the comments so far are right on the money. Jones needs a thermal gradient across the coast range and fairly stable upper atmosphere to be steady so that's why it works well in the summer. windonthewater.com has done a great job of pulling together useful data. I have some guidelines for Jones beach forecasting on my old website
(http://www.nwweather.com/JonesFcst.php) that might help interpret the pressure and temperature data you see on windonthewater.com

Stopped by Jones on my way back from area B today. It was wall to wall fishermen. The most I've seen there. I hope that was just a memorial day phenomenon.

The guidelines on nwweather are money for Jones - i still have a 5 or 6 year old printout pinned to my work cubicle wall. These are the rules for scoring Jones

George - miss your forecasting!!!

Yes open camping is allowed but there can be ATV types lurking about sometimes and not always desirable when they party it up. Can be windy too but seems to back off at dusk if thermal wind.

To avoid sand in your teeth (and everywhere else) as well as the noise from the quad crowd, I've found the best alternative for camping is the Clatskanie Bluegrass Festival which is a really cool down-home event in the town's large grassy park. There's an outdoor pool, decent skate park, tennis courts, basket ball hoops, and excellent camping as well as good music. It's a ten minute drive to/from Jones.

Here's some info:
August 5-7, 2011 Clatskanie Bluegrass Festival Clatskanie, OR. August 5th - 7th. at the Clatskanie City Park in Clatskanie, Oregon. You will be able to get in to camp on Wednesday the 3rd at about 10AM. Cost of the event will be $60 for camping and an additional $25 if you use electricity.
