I will be out there tommorrow too (Fri), its looking like another awsome windy day. 8m kite in the alley and butter smooth waters..
Come on out there tommorrow Darren. Leave work early or suddenly get the flu or something....

I'll see if I can escape work early afternoon for my first Jones session of the year. I'm guessing no point in showing up before 2?

The is the 3rd day in a row with a 0.06 pressure gradient. Another awsome day. About time summer get here. I haven't had 3 days in a row of kiting since September.

Can't make it out there today Sad but I went yesterday and it was very good. Was fine for 7-9m beach side.

And today...

differences 3hr pressure trend temperature pressure gradients

Astoria - Kelso
+9 +13 +10 +9 +7 +4
W 0.07 W 0.07 W 0.06 W 0.06 W 0.05 W 0.04

Wish it would carry on through the weekend.

Guys what sensors/ wind/ pressure data are you using to predict when Jones will blow?

I use IKitesurf.com. It seems to work for me - but it is a pay service.

yeah Nate, drop some knowledge on us about how to forecast Jones! I really want to go there a lot more this year. What wind direction is best for Jones? And what am I looking for when I am looking at the pressure gradients? Thanks dude!

All I do know is last year I found that when there was calm cloudy/ foggy days up here in Puget sound area( when it should have been sunny- damit !) then Jones would blow in the late afternoon as long as the windflow was generally onshore at the coast. Like Nate said the Jones sensor on windonthewater gives screwed up data so dont rely on that. but what is forecast data for several days out or next day ect?

Wind prediction for Jones is fairly simple. Look for temperatures in Astoria being a good cut lower than in Kelso/Longview. Hot air in the Kelso/Longview area will rise up and cooler air from the ocean will blow in. A 10+ degree difference will usually create a .03-.04 in.H2O pressure difference - which is what you need for good Jones kiting. I defer to Nate for any further Jones details. The recipe for wind is the same for every location, though - Warmer air will rise up and cooler air will blow in. The greater the air temperature differences the faster the wind will blow toward the warmer area.
