Sandbar is under 2 feet of water rendering the event site unusable for launching and landing. Also, all the logs and debris we cleared 2 weeks ago have floated back.

.

We're not supposed to run our lines and launch from the grass.
Without access to the sandbar, there's no place to run your lines and launch the kite.
I guess you could pump up your kite with the lines pre-attached and walk 10 feet out into the water and do a drift launch....
When the water is this high (sandbar completely under water) I think the only place to launch is the spit and the new launch at the Marina.

Sandspit parking lot is free.

We've been launching and landing from that spot for over 10 years now, highwater or lowwater, no matter.

with all the snowpack and high water we won't see the sand bar for a long time maybe end of july! This will make it very difficutl for anyone with intermediate skills to launch or land kites. Went to the sandbar yesterday and the high water extends all the way to the edge of the parking lot. Not much room! Get use to the new reality this year not good!

Let's just see how things play out in the next couple of weeks.

The northwest just had a combination of high rain volume and warmer temps, so this is just a natural thing for this time of year.
The dams are open full throttle at Bonneville and levels will vary depending on the day and weather.

Give another week or two Chicken Little, after that then you can run around telling everyone that the sky is falling and the end of the world is at hand.

I agree! Now is NOT the time to continue worrying about the depth of some stupid water at some stupid sandbar:
Apocalypse now? We'll find out Saturday

We kited off the spit before the sandbar grew and it was great entertainment to watch the launches. Come by watch the show and then launch off the Gorge Kiteboard School lawn.

With water moving like it is, the swell has to be amazing in other places! Get out those surfboards!
