so as i was driving across the astoria meggler bridge, as i often do, i was thinking to myself...look at all the sand out there at desdamona sands. looks like a a great place to kite other than the access issue. then i thought to myself again...wait i have a boat. what do you guys think? Drop one person off and chase them with the boat then rotate????

That area has endless potenial, too bad it's situated so awkwardly. A boat is the ticket for sure, hopefully a sound one with a capable operator cause that area can get a lil' nasty at times. With a boat that whole area is opened up, not to mention the sturgeon and salmon fishing thats coming up soon. I'm glad to hear about other folks obsessing over the same quandry that I am. Sounds like we need to start orchastrating a plan. I had been pondering paying a buddy or charter as a chase/safe boat for a bay crossing but have hesitated because if they aren't both kite saavy and a solid skipper than they could be more dangerous than helpful (like my wife trying to run a boat out in 20kt winds and ripping current with hazards a plenty). Sounds like a fun endeavor for some down individuals, I'll assist however I can. Til then we'll see if the coast will work this afternoon,
Cheers

If we can't get a boat we can have our support crew wear these and paddle behind us for safety.

Do it!

There are definitely currents to deal with.
And most definitely better on the up river side of the megler bridge.

It's actually only about 12 feet deep from the bridge up for miles.....I drift net it commercially.

Also...there is a set of sandbars that are only 3 feet deep ......about 2 miles above the bridge......huge area......anchor the boat and walk around....
Low tide slack---or hold up tides would be best.

It's a little bit of planning but a whole lot of adventure.

Tell us how it goes!! I've also been thinking of launching out of Chinook, WA. Seems possible, then you have that island for protection.

Jonesy was indeed very nice on Sunday, as Leon and I will testify!!! Sandstorm on the beach...4 hour session. Only 1 big boat came through and we chased it downwind in the butter for a couple miles. $$$$money$$$$
