It was only ten years ago that broom sticks were a common sight;

I remember several trips to Franze Hardware trying to find replacement line winders as the ones on that bar would always come unscrewed and lost

sweet broom stick!
kites musta turned hella slow back then, or they did'nt want to ruin their mom's broom handle....
I did get to experience the wrist leash "loop-o-fear" though, certainly don't miss those days.

Fuzzy pills on the end of broom sticks were a problem back in 2001 as well...

It seemed like every session was a kitemare back then.
I remember coming in to the spit overpowered on my 2-line 7meter with no one to catch the kite. I let go of the bar to flag the kite, but the wrist leash was wrapped around the line winder on the end of the bar. I got dragged by the wrist through the shallow water for 4-5 kite loops before the kite hit the water and the leash untangled itself.
