Hi everyone,

It's time to start planning some summer fun, so tell your lady kiter friends that this year's KB4Girls clinic in Hood River will be held August 13th, 2011 at the Hood River Kite Spit! 9x World Champion and Guinness Book of Records holder Kristin Boese is coming to Hood River as part of the KB4Girls world tour, which empowers girls and women through the sport of kiteboarding. I've attended the last two clinics and I must say that there's nothing cooler than kiting with 40 other awesome female riders! Kristin's non-profit KB4Girls "gives women around the world a platform in the sport, helps them to take up the sport, improve their kiting skills and even get to a competitive level. Through (KB4Girls) events we further the motivation, self-confidence and courage of the participants and
through fundraising we support women in need around the world." Check out kb4girls.org for entry details, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions!

Also, anyone interested in sponsoring KB4Girls can email us at info@kb4girls.org or get in touch with me personally at the number and email below.

Hope to see you there!

Will there be a clinic for beginners? (i.e. not riding yet, but some kite skills.)

Not this time, Nak. If the clinic becomes a multi-day event, there may be time and resources to coach all skill levels. Thanks for asking!

Hey. Is this a clinic for learning or a fundraiser? I checked out the web site and this seems to be a fundraiser. I would be more interested in a clinic to improve my skills. No offense. Fundraisers are great also.

I spoke to a gal in SF who is doing the "clinic" there. I guess it's a two in one deal. Raise money & do a clinic. Ohhhhhh. Well, I guess that's even better. I guess I'm slow.

Mel,

They are clinics they are just not for beginners. Long as you can stay up wind you will have a great time. Usually a pro demo's how to do a trick while someone else explains what's shes doing. I think the year I did it we went over jumping, back rolls, kite loops and few other tricks. It was a blast you will love it

Mel,

Yep, since KB4Girls is now a non-profit, there's fundraising going on! Check out kb4girls.org for all the details.

Thanks,
Lauri

How about some guys who kite like girls? Can they be a part of it. For example there is this guy Dave who doesn't jump more than 3 feet high. I think his last name is Moriarty or something like this. He must be Irish.

There is nothing I would like more than to kite with the local girls, learn some things etc. I have looked at this kb4girls web site pretty thoroughly and still can't seem to find the purpose of this "charity". What charity? Am I missing something? I've written to Miss Boese and still haven't heard back. Maybe she is traveling or something. Maybe you all can answer my questions? What women in need? Who has this charity helped? On the web site, there is a claim to post an annual report - but there is none. Can they please post it. I have a hard time asking people for money for a non-profit when I really don't know the cause; such as breast cancer, autism etc. IF this is more about sponsor me to fly to your local area and get a cool t-shirt, that's fine. I'd rather pay for a womens clinic and do that. I'd love to say I was hanging out Kristin/Tonia and they taught me a backroll etc. At this point I feel embarressed & selfish to ask people for money to promote girl sports when our economy is what it is and there are legitimate needs. I'm not trying to offend anyone or say this is a bad deal - just need to know the purpose. Please help me find it.

Thank You

I understand your concerns; KB4Girls was recently granted non-profit 501(c)3 status "to be able to raise money for their cause and other foundations and charities" (from the KB4Girls Concept pdf available for download from kb4girls.org) such as:

"Aim for the Stars", the Layne Beachley foundation in Austrailia

"Girls Inc" in San Francisco

"Silke Gorldt Foundation" in Germany

Surfrider foundation in Europe,

and we're hoping the "St. Francis House” here in Odell.

It's completely fair to request information about a charity's legitimacy, so no worries. Kristin spends a lot of time traveling around the world conducting clinics and competing, sometimes in regions with little or no internet service. But she does make time to post to the KB4Girls Facebook page, so feel free to check it out.

I realize it may be difficult to fund-raise in a less than perfect economic climate, but that's exactly when charities need help the most. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts, I appreciate your feedback and will discuss your concerns with the KB4Girls team.

Thanks so much Laurie for looking into this and explaining it to to me. I'm all for a fundraiser as long as I know what I'm raising funds for. Having something local will help with that also.

I really appreciate your time - organizing these things takes a lot of effort.

I am looking forward to the event and kiting with the local gals.

Cheers!
