So after I ended up sleeping late on Sunday and dissing on meadows I spent much of today in the office bitching about how fucking lame meadows is. I realized what I really needed was a shot in the arm, something to really bring the spark back as I am not getting any younger and certainly time is slowing down at all.

years ago when I used to be stoked about snowboarding we always used to talk about going heli-boarding but we never made it happen. Obviously, jumping in a helicopter with a small group and flying into the alaskan wilderness to get a once in a lifetime ski runs is not a cheap endeavor. But you have to ask yourself, why the hell do I spend all this time working and making money for? Do I want to buy a sailboat or do I want to purchase a memory that will surely still be vivid when I am old and grey.

A 4 day all inclusive heli vacation will run about $6k.

Is there anybody out there that is seriously interested?

Heli Skiing is totally worth it. But beware that it will ruin you for regular mountain riding. You think you hate Meadows now.... wait till after.

Also look into Wasatch powderbirds Heli skiing.

Mark, I could totally see that happening. I'm kind of like that with scuba diving. But you know what, I'm fine with that. I don't need to expend the time and energy to have sub-par experiences.

I kind of figured that I would go heli-boarding, then just come home and sell my shit. Been there, experienced the best, no need to go to meadows anymore.

Heli skiing in Cordova is slightly less expensive (maybe $1K less for a comparable trip), and from what I hear from a friend who is from there, much less "crowded" vs. Valdez.

Sounds to me like your snowboarding for the wrong reasons. Buy a sled, Im sure you will have plenty of fun with that. Obviously AK is the dream for any shredder so if you can make it happen bust it. But your making it sound like its Meadows or AK and there is nothing in between which is far from the truth.

BTW meadows management and operation is a joke, but if you think the terrain isnt good then you are just riding in the wrong zones.

What happens if you pay $6K for AK and the weather sucks and the heli can't fly?

If the conditions were great, it would totally be worth it, but what are the odds?

That's the problem with weather dependent sports, but also part of what makes them so addictive.

Makes me want to take up bowling instead...

Betty,
You have two kids and then get back to me on that plan. A day on the mountain for a family of four costs around $300 and you spend half the day on the grommers.

Dylan, in all seriousness, I was sking in the Rockies before you were even fucking born and I've boarded just about everywhere at meadows. I know your the young local ripper who has all the top secret stashes that NOBODY knows about.

So after you have 27 years of sking experience in Vermont, michigan, Washington, Colorado, Utah, California, BC, Idaho, wyoming, and yes, the glorious mt. Hood meadows you can can then come back and tell me I'm in it for the wrong reasons.

I've boarded down some shit that would leave poop stains on your XXXL t shirt. Go solo up and board down the Leuthold coluir in January then come talk to me.

Yeah! Leuthold coulior! I'm impressed Monkey Boy. I've dropped it a few times as well as some even sicker lines on Hood and I know not many have. Right on.

Sounds more like a retarded idea to me. I know you think your some old experienced dude or some shit but I will guarantee you after a day of shredding with me you would respect what I have to say. BTW I live in Utah and have shredded Washington, Colorado, Califronia, BC, Idaho, Montana. I dont even know why you would list Vermont or Michigan on a list of mountain experience, but Im sure thats what it was to you. So yeah Im just saying you sound kind of like an idiot.

I never said anything about secrets at meadows, obviously there are some zones that you dont know about though. Or are just to lazy/inexperienced to get to.

Dude, I'm still skiing Michigan, longer than you as well, and like you, I've been every where, and still having fun, so count your blessings you actually have a mountain. If you do have kids, skiing / boarding is one awesome family activity. You may consider using the cash for some season passes and a lifetime of family memories.

$300 vs $6k your right what a waste......screw hanging out with your kids that sounds lame

not that I dont think heli wouldn't be cool but dang $6k...I think I would spend a week on a boat in BVI instead kiting, diving and being warm

Hood is lame... Go ski Tahoe for a week then come back to over priced lift tickets and a turd they call meadows. Snowboarding is getting boring, after 28 years on this mountain I don't even want to pay out the ass for okay runs on hood.

It just means more Snowkiting!! YEAAHHH. Screw meadows and go snowkiting!!
