Has anyone ever kited the Columbia at the mouth of the sandy. Aerial views look like a decent sandbar to start from ? Did you access it off I-84? Any insight would be nice thanks!!

When the stars align, it can be one of my favorite spots, anywhere. But, the stars don't align very often. Most of the time the wind is crappy, going from your kite is literally falling out of the sky to being overpowered every few seconds. It's worth it to swing by in the boat to check it out because it's so close to the Camas marina. But be prepared to move on to another spot... Also, it's a late Summer/Fall spot only. The water level has to be prettty low to expose the beach. You can access it from I84, but it's a long hike. I've not done it and don't know the route, but I've seen other people hike in there in to fish. I'm pretty sure somebody else on here has hiked in & kited the spot though. Somebody posted about it a year or two ago. Speakig of fishing, it can get too crowded with fishing boats to even think of rigging up. Like I said, the stars have to align... Very Happy

OMG. Everyone is wind horny in the middle of March. Yes, it all seems so close yet so far but let's keep our heads on straight. The mouth at the Sandy is not what you are looking for. Snap out of it. It's gonna be alright. We'll all be on the water soon.

I guarantee that in the middle of June you'll feel dirty for even bringing this up.

A crew of us hiked it 2 years ago during a nuked out day at Rooster. You park at the Lewis and Clark parking lot just off exit 18 in Troutdale. Its a long ass hike in (2 miles), Special K and a few others kited it that day so she can tell you how the wind was. Not worth the hike in unless you have a mountain bike to make the 2 mile trek.
