What's up guys, new here, moved out west to Portland to snowboard and now getting into Kiteboarding. I use this GoPole rig for snowboarding but would love to use it kiteboarding also.
Does anyone rock the pole cam any pointers?
I'm going to attach something to it to make it float so i'm thinking it should be good to go.

Haven't tried using my monopod/GoPro on the water, but I honestly doubt you'd be able to get close enough. 3ft isn't going to do much at all, even shooting at 1080. Yeah, it'll help stabilize a bit, but unless you fly with your kite at 12, it's going to be tough to follow cam someone.

you need both hands to fly the kite, how would you hold the pole?
Jim Stringfellow in Seattle manufactures go pro mounts for boards, kites, helmets, etc.
Search the forums for Go Pro Mounts.... you'll find his name.

I never "rock the pole." Not that there's anything wrong with that...
I have used the "Pocket X-Shot" (though not on water) with the GoPro and find it works well enough. It's cheep and a bit flimsy but you could buy a couple for the price of that pole and it doubles as a handle when collapsed. The convenience of being able to stuff it in your pocket outweighs the added stiffness of the pole. No puns intended.

hey rasta,
I been known to make some mounts for cameras.
I've even tried the pole mount.
works great but it's best to get your comfort level established with kiteboarding before introducing things to the process.
I recently went to hatteras with a gopro and tried the pole mount.
I made a custom one and had an old slingshot velcro wrist leash I tied to my harness so I could use it as a holster.
I mainly kited with the camera in the holster, but would pull it out and film myself and friends when I wanted to.
When I kited with this, I always felt that I was limited to progressing because I didn't want to have a major wipeout while attached to a camera. I never made my pole cam float, but I did attach a leash in the event I dropped it.
anyhow, good luck with the pole, I have some friends up here that use them all the time. they will kite with it and stick it in the sand and kite right up to it.
heres a video I did from my recent trip. There are all kinds of crazy angles in this.
If you're creative, you can do all kinds of cool things with gopros.
we tried follow cam but he couldn't keep up with me to be close enough, so we tried him going first, then me coming in at him. I think it worked out pretty well. the pole also works good for rail hits in the same fashion. i think the pole helps to stabalize the shot a bit, too.
i am not a real fan of the board mount stuff cause the angles aren't that good. makes it tough to see what is really going on.
