Get a trainer kite and fly the s*^% out of it, the water is pretty cold to be figuring out how to stay out of it.

20 hours on a trainer. Then 1-2 lessons in spring and you'll be looking for gear.

Thanks for the feedback guys, but I really am wondering if anyone knows off the top of their head of where to get an off season lesson or if anyone on this forum provides off season lessons. If they exist.

Thanks

There isn't much wind to give you a lesson locally. You will need to travel to get lessons, which may teach you the lesson of how much traveling for wind sucks. Razz

I still give lessons for the the die hard guys out at the coast. The ponds out at fort stevens in Warrenton has been a good spot for my teaching at a mid tide. Water is ocean temp which is a hell of alot better than the river temp past Portland.

A good 5/4 hooded suit will keep you warm.

Also I another great spot is Neawanna Creek in Seaside on a high tide. Is a huge bay that is mostly waist deep. Has been a killer spot for giving lessons.

This time of year the coast is the best option for learning. If your interested let me know.

If you can afford to travel it's worth it. Your body will last longer in the water when it's sunny and warm then freezing your a** off here.

You could also consider going to like Idaho and learned via snowkiting first then get in the water this spring
