So its that time, gotta fill out the dream sheet for real.
Keep in mind this duty station is for the next 4 years
Here's my choices, listed in order of preference, let me know what you think.
Subs:
Pearl Harbor, HI
Agana, Guam
Washington (could be Bremerton, Bangor, or Everett)
San Diego, CA
Norfolk, VA
King's Bay, GA
Groton, CT
Carriers:
Washington (Bremerton or Everett)
Yokosuka, Japan
San Diego, CA
Norfolk, VA
It might be difficult for me to get on a sub because the fleet is so overwhelmed with sub volunteers, so getting on a carrier is the only other option _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/10069384@N05/sets/ |

Guam for 4 years would be a super long stint man. Might want to rethink that one a bit... |

OT - why do people want to serve on subs? I thought sub duty sounded misreable. At least a carrier is big, you can stretch your legs.
I've got no clue, just curious. |

I have a friend who just got out of submarine duty stationed in HI (was his first pick). A few months after arriving his boat went into drydock in New Hampshire for two or three years and he was stuck there, sucked bad! |

How often do you get leave to kite?
Just curious, is it only carrier or sub, or can you wind up on some other kind of boat in a carrier group - e.g. frigate / destroyer? Not trying to turn this into a sub vs carriers thread - but are subs & carriers the best?

I might put Norfolk ahead of guam
You can easily drive to Hatteras, Eastern shore of VA,
DC, NYC, etc. for a weekend....
Mainly Hatteras
Can't do that from Guam, way isolated
but maybe that's my bias as a native Virginian...
Water does get too cold for most in Va from January to March,
but at least you have options.
Good luck wherever you go! |
