Hey everybody I'm looking for advice on the best kiting spots in the caribbean. I'll be going on my honeymoon in July and the wife (to be) is open to a beach that's got wind but is not dedicated to just wind sports. She's all about having a beatiful beach with a great place to stay and good food, and isn't really looking for a party atmosphere that's only about wind sports (read Cabarete is OUT unfortunately). All info is appreciated!! |

I went on my honeymoon in mid sept. which is hurricane season in the Caribbean, so, I stayed south where hurricanes are less likely. We went to Tobago, Our hotel was first class with fantastic food, but, the food was also great wherever we went on the island. In 10 days we did not meet one American. World class snorkeling, not too touristy and friendly people. It was a much more exotic feel than other places I have been in the Caribbean.
I cant comment on the kiting, because, I went there before I started kite boarding.
I will comment on your choice in women though. The fact that your fiance accepts that you will be kite boarding on your honeymoon and all she is asking is that you be considerate of her needs to is a good sign that you have made a smart choice. Congratulations. Last edited by SalmonSlayer on Wed Dec 22, 10 12:06 am; edited 1 time in total |

I think the island of Provodenciales in the Turks and Caicos may be a good option. I was there with the wife in May and kited 5 out of 7 days with winds in the teens to mid twenties. I've never seen sand so white and water so clear. See photos from a local photographer at http://agilelevin.com/windvibes2010.htm
Long Bay is on the south side of the island with light chop and is 3 feet deep out to the shelf (2 miles i think). Cleanest wind I ever had and great for learning or working on new stuff. Also kited Taylor Bay on the south side but direction wasn't right. On the north side is Grace Bay which has a small reef break about a mile out if you want a wave session and are willing to go to the outside. To the east is Iguana Cay which has a sweet little lagoon shaded by a treeless spit of land. Took a kitesurfari there by boat with Wes from Big Blue Unlimited and rode his skim board in two inches of flat, aquamarine colored butter. All magic! Chalk sound is inland and beautifully blue but I didn't get a chance to try it this time. Nor did I try the many adjoining islands to the NE.
The nightlife is very mellow and we mainly would eat out then go home and crash cuz it's worth getting up early. Many varieties of restaurants from ultra-chic (Amanyara; primo outdoor sunset dining) to diner (Saltmills Diner; killer bangers and mash). Da Conch Shack is a must. Coco Bistro had really good food and the outdoor seating is in a palm grove. An American style grocery has all you would need to stock the fridge.
You'd definitely want to rent a car or scooter (go to Scooter Bob's) cuz when you are not kiting it's REALLY worth exploring the island end to end.
Good Luck in you quest, J[/img] |

Dude. It's not too late to run!
JK, sort of...
OK, if you're committed to this, and you can't be talked out of it, one piece of advice. Do. NOT. Kiteboard. On. Your. Honeymoon. UNLESS your fiance wants to kiteboard or take lessons as well. Sincerely wants to, not just to make you happy. If your fiance kiteboards as well then you are too lucky of a bastard and deserve no advice from anybody.
Oh yeah, congratulations! |

Consider St. Lucia north side. Stay at the Cotton Bay resort. |

CUBA !!!!!!!!!!!
Rum Cay in the southern Bahamas that time of year is stellar. Turks and Caico's is just to the south and is also killer.
Be careful of Cabarete, it can get SUPER crowded and lots of people sailing in the "Dig Me" zone. The locals like to kite in your face. |

Phil and I have been to Cozumel several times and it's awesome. Not over the top $$$ fun kiting, great food and it's safe. Set your wife up with Adrian for lessons while your riding...you will have a blast. _________________ Join the CGKA! Membership is only $10! Sign up at http://cgka.net/become-a-member/ |

Ditto on Betty B's recommendation.
Cozumel and Adrian. Adrian is a great guy, helpful, knowledgeable and well known/connected on the island. Call him up front and let him know your plans. |
