| Big wind/waves predicted for Sunday along with a break in the rain and possibly 60 for a high. So far there looks to be 3 of us going late morning to sunset (depending on rain forcast) and are looking for others (maybe another car). Last I heard it could be blowing 30-40 with 16ft swell. |

| A for effort. 16 ft swell with those winds = foamy seas; best to stay in close. I always post this, but with the recent heavy rains, there is going to be some wood debris ie branches, logs, stumps, out in the surf as well. Be careful. |

It's a fact.
A log in a 16 foot swell can cause brain damage.
But who am I to say? I'm just wussing out and staying home. Lame.

| Vadem & I did a downwinder at Beverly beach Sat - Siletz and Newport were gusty and nuked out, but oddly beverly was fairly steady 25mph or so. Waves were shoulder high (b/c of the reef?) even tho it was 11 ft forecast, so we went for it. Really enjoyed the smaller waves - conditions could have been better, but we had fun! |

I was riding those south winds at the coast today. It was blowing a solid 25 the whole time and those 11 foot swells went from 10 second intervals to 18 second intervals. It was INSANE. Super huge and glassy. There were a few hot chicks in bikinis on the beach too. I thought "damn, hardcore". So I ordered a pina colada from the kite-thru bar just past the reef and then caught some more wicked sets.
Oh wait, I was actually at work. Damn it.
If only they had a GoPro for kite daydreams.

Well It was not to bad. only 2 other kiters that we saw launching around 3 or so. No driftwood or logs in water or beach in the whole 8 mile trip other than a dead seal. Waves were about 10-12 and nice break at sunset and north of. But the wind was wicked from morning till 2pm+ about 45+ at Gearheart and decreasing as we went North???and stayed that way during the day about 10mph difference from Gearheart-Ft Stevens?is that common???
Oh yea and temps in the 60's??yup |

There's no method to the southerly madness. No trending from N to S, just where the storm cells happen to hit when you are at any given spot. NARDS and I DW'd from Gearhart to SS around 3. We live here and went through a manic 6m? 10m? 6m? 10m? agonizing decision matrix before deciding on the 10m's and ended up being 6m wind. That is common but still a decent sesh. Every once in awhile there's a nice consistent wind from the south but this wasn't one of them.
2 little sedans stuck on the beach. One was abandoned and almost buried at Sunset adding to the apocalyptic scenery  |

| Barfly- we drove by just as you were getting out, I was guessing on 9 or 10m, thanks for the info. Went out on a six and traded off as we went down the beach later on and 8 and could have been a 12 when we were done. Afterward we quickly packed up and drove back to last southly entrance and it was blowing hard there still so that was why I asked. Also it was a lot gustier there but was probably because of the higher winds, I thought it might be because of the hills south of Seaside. 2nd year of kiting for me so all info helps for next time. |
