Hey NWKiters!

I am thinking about getting a GoPro pretty soon and was just wondering what kinds of setups people like using for kiteboarding. They have a bunch of lists of mounts on their website but nothing that sounds like a kite mount or a kite line mount. What are the better types of GoPros/mounts for kiteboarding that you guys have found? Anything I HAVE TO get with it if/when I buy one? Just seeing if you guys can help me save me some money or know any good tips for a potential GoPro buyer because I definitely want to set one up for taking some sick pics whilst kiteboarding! Thanks for your time people!

Check out www.Kitehero.com for any kiteboarding related mounts. Been using all their monuts since the prototype phase and I can say that they are bomb proof and they stand behind their product.

I like the stock mounts for use on the boards, but keep in mind a couple things:

* the board bouncing in the chop will cause the camera to angle down...to get it tight enough to not move you need to use a screw driver.

* I have broke two mounts so far on high speed crashes (wakeboard behind boat) and the camera does not float...I got one of those floaty keychains and used contact cement to attach it to the back door...now it DOES float.

* the 3M adhesive they use can be heated up with a hairdryer, removed and reapplied...and the stuff is rediculously sticky...the plastic will break before the adhesive lets loose from a smooth clean surface.

Cool thanks for the info guys! It seems like it would be pretty cool to have a GoPro camera and thanks for the advice about them not floating. I didn't think about that at all!

thanks chooch for the plug.
gopros are a great camera for capturing your experience.
obviously kiteline mounts are my favorite way to shoot.
board mounts are good, but I have found that continuous impacts with your board to the water can eventually fatigue the plastics and something will break.
keep that in mind when using a board mount.
I love the perspective from your kite canopy. try getting the H20 audio armband for the nano gen 3 ipod. it's on claerance at H20 audio and fits the gopro pretty good. the velcro armband works perfect around a center strut.
I have seen friends use a broom handle modified to fit the ears on a gopro. get your self a broom handle with the correct fitting and then you can just attach it and stick it in the sand. works great in areas where the water is not deep.
as for floating, not many cameras out there float, but GoPro did let me know that soon they will be releasing a flotation device.
as for which gopro, the new 960 is a HD camera that shoots both stills and video. it will only set you back around $200.
I think I saw these cameras down at 2nd wind the other weekend.

If you secure the attached bungies you are good to go - and newsflash if you hook shit to your kite or lines it can affect how your kite flies, relaunches, etc
