If i could spell, i;d be dangerous
and if I toke names, and noted your rigging, would you wonder, why?
......... when I ask a question do you know it is only a test, of your attitude?
seriously kitting is changing, and most people have down sized to only a 10m kite as a max size, ??? so strange as this might seem, even in super light wind conditions, famous riders like( mike karry) only ride a 12m?
....Seems the R&D guys where right new kites are much more powerful and controllable.
.........listening to feed back from top riders,one only gets more confussed,,,,,
....... many factors of rigging and line length come to the equation for kitting properly powered which has been difficult in my last four sessons.
You can devide your wieght by your kite size which gives a pritty accurate wind speed, everybody knows am pimpin slingshot, the RPM 10m is a smart choice in todays style driven market and i ride this kite, and watch its performance, proven a winner!!!! secret agent reports, slingshots regonal riders where on seen today!!!!!

I never heard of that before (Dividing your weight by the windspeed) gives you the correct size kite.
I weigh 180 and the formula is spot on!
180 / 15 mph = 12 meter (perfect).
180 / 20 mph = 9 meter (perfect).
180 / 25 mph = 7 meter (perfect).
180 / 30 mph = 6 meter (perfect). |

this doesn't exatly work, I did it for me
160/40 mph = 4 Meter (7 is perfect)
160/25 mph = 6.4 meter (9 or 10 is perfect)
160/18 mph = 8.8 meter (12m time)
Question: you're 180lbs and you ride a 7m when it is 25mph and you think that's perfect? you need more power my friend. you will thank me later

Personal preference for most. Way too many factors go into kite size and wind conditions to be an exact science but with the depower capabilities on kites improving so much rigging big is easier today......even in the gusty Gorge.
However, the best thing about this post is DP's improved marketing verbiage...the RPM 10m is a smart choice in todays style driven market and i ride this kite, and watch its performance, proven a winner

Interesting. I've never heard that before either, but that chart is perfect for me and I weigh the same. Maybe it just fits our weight best!
I'd agree that at 25-30, my 7 is spot on the money kite. 6 is too small. I could ride a 9 or even an 11, but would be pulling in too much depower line. |

I guess it all depends in whether you're an optimist or a pessimist.
If IKitesurf wind gauge says average of 25 with a lull of 18 and gusting to 30.....
If you ask 3 people what it's blowing, you'll get 2 or 3 different answers. Some will say it's blowing 25. Some will say it's blowing 30!
So - if it's blowing 25 with gusts to 30 - I'd probably be on a 7m and be pretty happy. Actually, I ride RPMs so I'd round up to 8m.
Anyway - I though the formula was interesting and reasonably accurate. |

..wow, thats amazing, really my thought was;
16-300=18.5knts
12-300=25knt
10m-170lbs=17knts
that was my idea? yours works good too!!!
