What size kite did you use. I've read its very windy. Also want to take a big kite for the northern coast. There will be 8 of us so trying to keep total kite count down. Did you stay in La Serana, or some place closer? Were you able to kite any other place while in Chile? We are also going to copiapo. Have read there are places in the ocean around this part of Chile.

We spent 3 weeks camping on the beach in Guanaqueros (about 30 min south of La Serena and 90 min from Puclaro). One of the guys I went with stays there for a month every year visiting his family....otherwise I would have stayd in La Serena, Puclaro can be ok to stay in but its a really small village so you need to drive to La Serena to get any type of nightlife or shopping. The wind there is amazing....every morning you wake up the reservoir is like glass, then at around 10-11 you see a wind line coming in and within 20 min its blowing 9m. I would say the 2 kites to bring down would be in the 6m-10m range for Puclaro, if your riding the coast at all I would say bring two kites in the 8-13m range.

I didn't get further north than La Serena, flew into Santiago and drove the 6 hours to Guanaquieros. Did manage to kite at Pichidangui on the way back, its right off the highway and has really solid thermal winds. It has a huge beach and some really clean surf. Bring a wetsuit if you plan on hitting the central/north coast, I think I was in my 3/2 and was plenty warm. If you plan on kiting around the Valapariso area and south then bring a 4/3 or 5/4, water temps are a lot like the Oregon coast. Made it down to San Antoino but decided not to kite since it was a really rocky lineup and cold.

If you get a chance while you are in the La Serena area I highly reccomend going up into the mountains and checking out one of the star observatories during the night. We went up to Andacollo and had a great dinner and then once it got dark we went up to the Tololo observatory (10-15 min up the mountain from Andacollo) and had the most amazing views of the milky way, planets, and stars. The Pisco factory tour is also a good trip (30-40 min from Puclaro) if you get a chance.

Be sure to take advantage of all the amazing produce and fresh fish...Chile had some of the best food I have ever experienced. Oh and drink plenty of Pisco Drunk

Pichidangui

Puclaro

Enjoy....Chile is by far the best country I have ever visited.

Oahu, kiting at Kailua. Leave this Wed. I am highly distracted with anticipation and therefore pretty much useless and unproductive. I did get my golf bag packed tonite though! Very Happy

Forecast:

Wed: Good, Thursday VERY GOOD, Friday: GOOD, Sat: OK, Sun: Go to Dukes Sun Afternoon to listen to Henry Kapono play, no wind. After that, Hang out at the beach and watch the wind ALMOST be good enough. Very Happy Have fun, get out Wed afternoon and ride all you can while the wind is good. See you there Wed and Thurs!

Me: layovers in Honolulu off and on, not sure about vacation time yet. I loved Isla de Coche and would love to hit Los Roques, but we REALLY did not like spending two nights in Caracas. Probably skip Venezuela for the foreseeable future. Maybe hit Isla Blanca again... Egypt might be fun? Where is the best flat water in the world, other than Venezuela? (Must be turquoise water, not brown... Smile )

I have that one high on my list I heard the diving there is amazing and the kiting looks awesome too.

If anyone has been to Egypt I would love to hear about that trip where to stay, where to kite, ect.

Sure JMatic rub it in. We get to hang out on a ski hill with 2500 verticle feet and rain for $69 a day. Crying or Very sad

Nothing like Jackson Hole for the best value in North America! Thumb's Up

I'm heading to caye caulker for 2 weeks in december. Anyone been recently? I've heard the kiting is ok. Going also for the rum and snorkeling as an added bonus.
