Saturday is looking better to snipe a session on the front end of a system ramping up around noon down here on the south coast. ......watch for wood/root wads and other flotsam that will ruin your day and your body. High river flows will pump this shizots out like there's no tomorrow, but high tides and big swell will come and grab this stuff already stashed on the beach. Looks like 20 foot swell will be hitting the beaches Mon/Tues.
The winter systems bring heavy duty energy to the beaches. Have a plan for getting your kite and body safely back to your truck. You gotta study all the information available to you before you go. The kiters who live on the coast have an advantage of watching these systems roll in and out. Find those people, bring them beer and mine all the info you can from them.
We are blessed with root wads down here. I carry a long loop of light webbing tucked in the zipper of my wetsuit and a carabiner clipped to my harness. I use these items to self-land in nuking winds when no one is around. I use this regularly. Even when you're with other kiters you might find yourself way down wind in stiff conditions. When the wind starts to freight train and you realize that your kite is way too big... you can claw your way to the nearest root wad, rig an anchor and get that biatch down.
Gust-a-palooza all winter long. |
