Revamped channel paying off with world record breaking speeds. Kitesurfers stamped their dominance on the sport by breaking the record by the biggest single margin in the sport’s history. Alex Caizergues has officially set a new World Speed Sailing Record of 54.10 knots. Impressive as it exceeds 60 mph and over 100kph…
Sebastien Cattelan from France is placed 2nd in the world speed sailing rankings at 52.33 knots.
The previous record was held by the Hydroptere @ 51.36 knots

Very, Very, cool! Thumb's Up Thumb's Up Thumb's Up

I love this quote:

Today wasn’t a record breaking day. Wind was @ 35 knots but you can see Catman & Bringdal having fun in light wind.

The next decent wind looks like Friday to Sunday, but spring high tide will be around 3pm, so they’ll have the opposite problem to this past Friday. There will be too much water and the channel might be buried making the water choppy. This could also be the last blow before the end of the event, as the next decent wind shows around 2-3 November.
The weekend moderate NW winds have flatten all the leeward bank. Let’s hope it hasn’t pilled that sand into the channel.

Looks like the next best wind will be over the weekend and Monday. If the forecast holds up, perhaps towards the end of the month as well.

A big up to all the competitors and organizers of the Luderitz Speed challenge for making world-record breaking sailing speeds possible.

Let’s not forget about the other contenders to the Sailing Speed Challenge: The world’s fastest sailboats. One of them is the VESTAS SAILROCKET.
Achievements to date:
-emerged in 2008 as fastest sailing ‘boat’ in the world
-current B class world record holder
-best 500 meter average 49.38 knots
-best peak speed 52.78 knots (60.75mph).

Rob Douglas and Catman have both exceeded 55.5 knots today, but we're still waiting for the official results.
Catman was the first one today to have broken the 55 knot ( over 101 kmh / 63 mph) speed barrier but not for long as Rob Douglas also clocked in above 55 knots.
