Fri Oct 01, 10 6:45 pm Fuel without rider... |

I saw a black and white SS Fuel blow down the river today past the WS bridge. No rider in sight. I tried to drag it in, but started getting tangled in the lines and had to bail out. Does anyone know if the rider made it back okay and if they managed to get their kite back? |

At about 4:40 I saw a guy bring the kite to the event site. Very cool, carried it while kiting and the lines trailing. Don't know about the rider. |

Had two broken lines. I saw him grab another bar, rig up and head back out. WOW great wind this afternoon. |

I saw the equally impressive rescue of the guy and his board by another kiter.
They were both riding in (planing) with the kiteless guy holding on to the back of the other guys harness. They made it look easy (almost fun). |

Very cool.
FYI, just use your leash to tow a guy in waterski style. Just unhook it from your kite and back to your harness so it forms a loop. Fairly safe and keeps him a ways back. _________________ Windance Boardshop- Hood River

Well said. Clipping back into your harness to create the loop is key.
Most leashes have a metal clip/carabiner on each end. So simply unhooking leash and handing it to the guy without looping it creates some issues.
Last year a guy had his fingers injured when being rescued. He was asked to simply hold onto the end of leash. One strong pull and you have a bungee and carabiner slicing through your hand.
Also, if the person lets go, the rider has a metal carabiner flying at them off a loaded up bungee.
Obviously the person being towed should not entwine their hand in the looped leash.
Any other comments on this? It’s just what I have heard. I have not had to personally tow anyone in. |

Right on AK.
Also, I had to tow some dudes kite in this summer and did it the same way. Just loop your leash thru his SLE lines and boot it for the sandbar with the lines & bar dragging behind. Made sure I didn't have to turn so the thing stayed off my rear quarter. Once I got close 2 or 3 guys on the beach ran up and grabbed it. Easy _________________ Windance Boardshop- Hood River
