When the wind started to drop today, a lot of kites went down.

I'm wondering what happened to the two guys trying to bring in the one black kite (slingshot I think). Last I saw, they were about a mile down river.

And...

Another guy was flying a black kite and trying to drag a green kite across the river. Last I saw him, his kite was down too.

Sorry I couldn't help as I am beginner and surely would have made the situation worse.

Good thing they floated downriver, lest the end up getting gang raped on the sand dunes.

A boat picked up one guy and his kite after he was swimming for an hour.

So, the lady and I are down winding from Briddlevail …. we get to the upper eastern end of rooster and the wind picks up a bit and we can actually tack and stay up wind…

I see this guy waving frantically on the Oregon side… I think he must have lost his board or something so I go over … It’s a gorge regular whom we see all the time, everywhere it’s blown… Dana, I think might be his name, anyway …he says “I’m trying to get that boats attention I need help to rescue a couple friends way down there”..

sooo I tack out towards the boat… Thinkn the whole time about the locals… and sure enough…..two naked dudes on the boat … I tell them on my way by “if you guys feel like really helping somebody out, that guy on the beach waving could use your help.. I was trying to put it to them like something you might read in the bathroom stall , up in the park….

As I’m heading for the Washington side they seem to be getting ready to spring in to action.. A couple of tacks later they have picked up Dana and are heading down river. Laughing

The site, as they motor away, Laughing of a fully wetsuited kiter standing between two naked assed viet slong gave me quite a chuckle… pour Dana really took one for the team.. Wink a true friend …. I can only imagine how that encounter went down.. Kiter ”hey boys, could you give me a ride, my friend is getting BLOWN down river ,and needs some assistance getting pulled out ” wink wink Wink Wink Naked dudes on boat Very Happy ” we’d love to Wink Wink jump in”

So ,as to what happened , I got a ride back to our rig with Pete from Moiser who was kiting with Hal the Great not just good Samaritan who tracked down the brown kite from the Washington side, as the guy had ditched and swam in.. Hal got the kite and ended up hundreds of yards down river from the boat ramp. The other kite self rescued in hundreds of more yards down river…. Way to go Hal and Dana(?)…above and way beyond the call of duty… Karma points!!

What about the guys in the boat? They don't get Karma points because they are probably gay? I can't believe how homophobic everyone on this site seems to be. That said, it was probably quite a site seeing those guys to the rescue.

I think we have our first resident homesexual kiteboarder on the forum. Is that the politically correct term? Someone has to buy the purple and pink kites Laughing

Nope. Not gay, just tolerant.

I'll share my two cents worth. When I was asked to go over to the Washington side to pick up the kite, I was hesitant because the wind was dying and didn't have bag to carry the kite back. I was reluctant, but went anyway. When I arrived at the kite, it was neatly lying on the rocks with the lines/bar downwind ready for a launch - figure that - all it needed was a rider and more wind. I rolled up the lines and placed in the front of my harness, let out half the air in the kite and tied one end to my harness. The thought was that the kite would be light enough to luff behind me while I try to tack back. No such luck! The wind was down and the pulled kite continued to drag in the water. I made it back to the Washington shore and folded up the kite and placed it between the velcro and harness straps in the front. Ha Ha - looked like twenty years ago carrying one of my children!

Ended up down near the boat entrance and handed the kite into the boat. That the the funniest part when the driver told me that the kite would "blow" off the bow, and could I please place it in the aft portion! As I walked towards the "rear" of the boat, little did I know that I would see so many "rears". That was a crack-up!

Happy to help!

Tolerance is fine but gay jokes are hilarious. Especially when pink kites and nude beaches are involved.

I've been rescued by many different types of folks over the years but NEVER by two naked guys in a boat. That's pure gold.

I'm not running for office anytime soon so I can make as many gay,but rape, and black dildo comments as I damn well please. So if you make a joke about someone that automatically makes you intolerant of the person your joking about? Get off your pious high horse.

I've been rescued by nude guys in a boat before, and I brought them beer, both my neighbors are gay and they are super cool (well, the one is mildly cool but the other is still a nice guy), and I used to roll with the equality and the staight but not narrow bumper stickers back when gay rights in oregon where under serious attack.

If these jokes offend you, please note the piece of mistletoe affixed to the back of my pants.

Glad everyone got out safe. We launched a nightime rescue DS of roster at the scenic pullout. We flagged down the paddle wheeler and they actually launched a zodiac and rescued the dude...after the spotted him with the search light. Pretty damn cool of the sternwheeler captain!

I did think it was funny. It is funny. No high horse here. I just think it sucks that the dudes who rescued the kiters got no credit. I'm not offended, however I will refrain from the mistletoe invite.

I wish I could buy the two naked guys in the boat a beer for retrieving my board and hauling me back up to Rooster. Also, many thanks to Nak for offering help as well. I would have ended up in Troutdale, without my board.
