Just gotta say.
Gotta love the Oregon coast.
Natural resources
at our doorstep.

Gillnetted Youngs Bay for salmon for 8 hours.
Caught 50 salmon.
Made $$ having fun gettin dirty.
Drove to the beach "to rinse off" and did a 5 mile downwinder in 17 to 20 mph NW winds.
70 degrees and blue skies.

Picked up a truck bed of beach wood for the fireplace at home.

Came home to two 3 point bucks standing in my yard.
They tried to eat my wife's flowers all summer.
So a few more days and one of them will be in my freezer.

October surfing just around the corner.
Winter waves from October to March.

Oregon.
Home sweet home.

Just gotta say it.
Because I know you all agree.

This guy really "gets it" too.
Check out this vid.

You should be on the Outdoor Channel hosting your own show, "Surfing, Fishing, Gardening, and Hunting, yep I live on the Oregon Coast!! " The combination of hunting surfing and fishing is exactly what I love about Da Gorge.
The Steelhead, Salmon, Grouse, Deer, wind and water enticed me to leave the enchanted state, NM back in the day. I've never looked back, but I do miss my family from time to time.
The Oregon Coast was always a place that interested me, but as a windsurfer it was intimidating and required some bigger wave boards and sails. I was hesitant to surf it because I didn't really know where to go.
Now, 10 years later I'm becoming more interested in kiting, surfing and fishing the coast than ever. The adventure never ends.
The other thing that really stands out to me is the genuine kindness of the people who live and play in Oregon. I remember coming from Idaho to Oregon and pulling over, driving an S-10 towing a pop up, to let my daughter and son stretch their legs. This truck pulls up and a cow-woman driving a big truck with a trailer of hay bails asked if we were ok. I knew then it was a matter of time before my life as an Oregonian was going to start.
I'm sold.. Very Happy

scottnorby,

i'm heading to Astoria next weekend and familiar with
the kiting spots, but curious about the best surf spots
other than seaside or north jetty? Anything else good
and local for a short boarder?

PM me if you like.

Best,

Retz

That was a beautiful video - thanks for sharing!

Oregon is definitely the best place on earth. I left everything to move here 4 years ago, and I still feel like the double rainbow guy every time I go outdoors.

I can't believe I was initially sad about leaving the warm east coast waters, until I finally bought a wetsuit and figured out how to tap what we have here. And then I discovered this kiting thing... I think it's fair to say it changed my life.

Happy Fall!

Holy guys , cut it out . I got a tear in my eye . I'm very envious of you all .
I was born in Holland and came to Canada with my parents .We travelled to California when I was very small but I never forgot about the beaches of Washington and Oregon . I have returned several times as an adult and it still gives the same awesome feeling . I have come to kite spending a little more time and met awesome people .
Still lots of room for everyone to enjoy and cherish !
A little busier than in the sixties , or is it I'm just a little slower too .
Thanks for sharing
JackZ Very Happy

It's not all utopia. We have to live through 5-6 months of rain and constant overcast. Every March/April I wonder why in the hell I live here.

I heard its supposed to be a good winter for snow. But I can't even think about snow right now - didn't get enough sun and time on the water - lame!
