Last week I got some great days at the coast. I had been mostly rideing into the waves frontside(I am gooffey so this is switch). I do this mostly to be able to gain up wind better. jibeing on a couple big waves fully powered and bumpy, I had a hard time makeing a decent bottom turn. Then on the way out I turned on to a wave backside and noticed my bottom turns were better. After that I started comeing in switch and then right before I got on a wave I would switch my feet to toeside. So I would end up backside on the wave. I had never switched my feet without jibeing so it took a litte practice, but it seemed to work well. Thinking about this, I think that backside lets you face the kite in sideon during your bottom turn were front side as you bottom turn the kite is over your shoulder and tends to stop hard bottom turns(frontside I tend to go more down the line). In side off it maybe the opposite.

that is the ticket - my fellow goofy friend Thumb's Up

now you got to get that dialed for jibing onto the face of an overhead wave for southerlies and perfect lefts or Northerns on the east coast

tho its always good to test your switch foot ambidextrous powers

so do you think that regular footers tend to have problems on their bottom turns with the kite in side on. Or another way to put it is do they have to move their kite more to keep it in front of them.

I sometimes do over ride my kite on a fast bottom turn. This is usually my fault though. If I would lead me turns better by moving the kite before I make my turn the lines would not slack. The other thing I need to do is make more of an aggressive bottom turn back up the wave face. I tend to get too much speed. On a backside wave I do not tend to have this problem. I am getting better though. I hope (pray) we have some conditions that will help me practice this in the near future.

Not sure I totally follow...but I think it's true to say that regardless of your stance preference...turning back to the wave is harder in side-on conditions...and it's easier to ride backside in side-on without slacking your lines.

What I was trying to say is in side on rideing backside the kite is faceing your chest as you make your bottom turn, so you don't have to move it as much to make a 180 degree botom turn. rideing front side you have to move the kite more before your bottom turn or the kite ends up behind your back shoulder preventing you from completeing a 180 degree bottom turn.
