Fri Aug 20, 10 5:42 pm OT: Doc says I have bursitus, infected? NEW picture |
|
|
Picture of my elbow after I must of banged hard working under my car. Frickin' car! It started as a defined golf ball sized bump filled with fluid so I went to the doctor later and they said it was bursitus. It turned red over night so I went back and another doc put me on oral antibiotics and steroids. If it gets any larger by morning I'm going back.
Anyone had something like this? I've read an infection can turn ugly and wondering at what point I need to seek more aggressive action. Thank you for any advice or similar experience.

Keep a close eye on that Hein. There have been at least two very aggressive bacterial infections like that in Hood River, that required many courses of strong antibiotics and a few weeks to clear up. I am by no means saying that's what you have, but you really do not want to mess around with things like this.

Looks exactly like what I had. I didn't do anything about it and it got better. And just as I thought I was good it came back even worse. I swoll up to the point of not being able to move my elbow. Went to the doc, got antibiotics. They worked and its better now. They said if the infection gets into the bone it can take a very long time to heal. |

New picture as of today at 1:00 PM
I've had some mild compression on it just before the picture so
that's made some areas more red.
Actually looked a little better yesterday but now more red again.
There is no pain; I don't have limited mobility. My temperature is normal.
P.S.
If recommended, I would not hesitate to take immediate aggressive
action (direct injection of antibiotics maybe) to get ahead of this.
Even if I need to go to the ER for that.
I'm going back in Monday to have the docs take another look. |

The swelling is down so what I have left is bruising from
the stretched tissue. I am applying Arniflora Arnica Gel to
help with that.
Feel like I am beating this which is good because the coast
is calling.
Thanks for all the feedback, support and help especially
from a kind lady who is very knowledgeable about homeopathic
remedies. She applied a baking soda (iirc) paste to the effected
area a couple of times and also recommended the arnica gel to
reduce the bruising. Her positive outlook and smile helped a lot
too.
And many thanks to the Nurse Practitioners at my doctors office
for a prompt accurate diagnosis and willingness to get me started
on some medication before things got out of control. They are
always friendly and willing to make time to see me. Thank you.
I'll likely be back there again Monday for a follow up.
Be vigilant about your health; seek attention early on when you
have a problem; research it; ask a lot of questions when you visit
your doctor. Share your problem with the people around you and
additional solutions and remedies may present themselves. Then
get after the problem on all fronts and don't hesitate to seek more
aggressive treatment if you feel you need it. Take care of yourself.
I'm not convinced that a government run health care system can be
that responsive but that's another discussion. |

Oh yeich! I whacked my knee last year and it puffs up every now and then still. I've got a buddy that has bursitus in his elbow and it always seems to come back every now and then. Certianly take good care of that! I usually just ice and compress it at this point. But I've also found that alternating hot and cold helps compress out the juice, seem to work for me as maintenance. |
