Fri Aug 20, 10 7:04 am Quality of Gorge winds this summer?? |

Just curious as to what all of you think? I have ony been kiting in the Gorge for four summers now but have experienced the winds at Hatch, Rufus and Rosey to be gusty, holey and frustrating. Some of my friends think I am becoming a wind snob, which I hope is not true. Was at Rufus Wednesday and Thursday and for the most part thought the winds were shit. |

The gorge has strong winds, but not steady winds. If you do happen to get it relatively steady consider yourself lucky.

This think that this summer has had more windy days in the Gorge, but not so much on the coast, Usually have had about 12 coast sessons by now, but haven't had a decent coast session since June. |

Can't comment on the central and east, but have been riding at Stevenson for the past 20 years (proximity to work). The trend I've noticed this year is higher wind speed spacing between gusts and lulls and shorter duration of the gusts. On the positive side many days there has been an executive session post 5PM where the wind drops but becomes very steady until late. Never used to go much past 5:30. Can do more with less with a kite, but the WSers have been hitting it late too. |

The G in Gorge stands for gusty. Get use to it or stay home in the Panhandle where there is no quality or quantity of wind. No doubt you are a wind snob! Luv ya bro! |

I concur with lawnmower, Stevenson seems to be having fantastic evening sessions this year. Been riding from 5 till near 8 p.m. many evenings this summer. Also seem to be riding an 8 quite a bit more than a couple of years ago.
People say the gorge is gusty and holey but don't complain till you've been out on a lake or tried to get off the beach in Maui. And the wind in HR sucks!

I was hanging out with a guy from Austria today at the sand bar (1 or 2ish when the wind was dying and all over the place) and he was like "the winds here are so steady."
Hate to see what he has been riding in back home _________________ Respect the kite, respect the beaches |

Maybe I should have been a little more specific. Since getting into wind sports, I have heard people make references to wind as gusty, blow drier steady, streaky, swiss cheesy, turbulent, cunty, bitchy, punchy, holey, dirty, clean to name a few. I guess I can deal with most winds other than what I would venture to guess is streaky or holey, which is what I have experienced quite a bit this summer. Going from fully powered to practically trying to keep my kite the air. |
