EIGHT IN THE BANK…4 REMAINING

With only 4 nights of racing left in the 2010 version of the Cabrinha Race Series, the official results indicate a tie at the top of the leader board between Chip Wasson and the 2009 Champion, Stefaans Viljoen

The official results show Wasson and Stefaans tied with 17 point, followed by Joey Pasquali with 32 points. Chris Brown, Kevin Richards, Frank Wittke, Eric Due, Eric Geleynse, Geoff Headington and William Morris round out the top ten in the order mentioned. However a closer analysis of the results, although unofficial, might indicate that Wasson actually has a slight lead of maybe three points over Stefaans. Wasson however has yet to fulfill his race committee responsibilities. Analysis might also indicate that Eric Due could very well jump from his current 7th spot to 4th, just 2 points behind Pasquali. Headinton could also make the leap from 9th to 5th, just ahead of Brown, and Marcello Segura would most likely move into the top ten. Chris Brown: Does this agree with your more detailed analysis?

For a blow by blow description of the three races on 7/29, check out WaterHound’s (David Wells) at http://www.bayareakiteboarding.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8733.
Botton line, racers were on 9-11s, wind was a solid 15-25 and stronger outside with higher readings at TI and Angel Island as high as 32. There was also a strong ebb for all three races. Although not usually first at the windward mark, Johnny Heineken chanced down everyone and anyone in front of him to capture 3 bullets. In the last race he caught Stefaans on the last leg to nip him at the finish. Other notable happenings, Headinton fauled Wasson at the leeward mark in the second race and Wasson had to take a DNF and a DNS for the third race. Headington took a 30% penalty and finished 23rd in the second race. Joey Pasquali was battling for the lead on the last leg of the third race when his depower loop failed and he lost his kite. And in the second race, Adam Vance was first to the windward mark and forgot about the offset buoy…cost him a couple of places. There were also a couple of tangles.

Race night number nine is scheduled for Thursday, August 12, with one more night in August and the final two in September. I will not be attending the races on the 29th, so WaterHound, no one to keep you honest J

The Cabrinha Race series is sponsored by Cabrinha, Ozonetravel, Captain Kirk’s, and hosted by the St. Francis Yacht Club.
