Who makes the largest helmet that would be appropriate for kiteboarding? I wear a size 8.25 hat (~68cm) and that is way off the size charts for most helmet manufacturers. Any help would be appreciated, thanks! _________________ Greg

Try Predator. I wear the "Lee." They have a less goofy style at Windance. Their regular large fits me very well, in fact I have to add pads. They make an XL version as well. Really nice helmets.

Welcome to the forum Greg. Sorry don't know much about large helmet sizes. But just out of curiosity - did you play the red headed kid in So I Married an Axe Murderer? _________________ Still rockin gojos, *ssless chaps, and ankle weights!

I was considering a kayak shop but was not sure if the helmets would be OK for kite use (drag in the water? sun shade acts like a big scoop and rips your head back during impact? etc.). Maybe those worries are unfounded. Thanks, I'll check out the 'yak stores. _________________ Greg

Yes some helmets obviously will work better/differantly than others just like motorcycle helmets have various styles vs. effectiveness. The important thing is wearing one could save your life.

I remember charlie brown used a large hollowed out pumpkin and it worked pretty well. You will have to wait until fall though when they get ripe. I wouldn't worry about the bill too much. I see plenty of kiters use them and they never broke their necks ..plus it would be nice to keep the sun out of your eyes _________________ Bury me standing cause I won't lay down!!

yeah it seems like kite/surfshops have one old proteck in the corner and kayak shops have a whole wall of helmets. I have one from the kayak shed from years ago no brim works great.

We got the new triple 8 helmets and at least 2 old pro-tects in the corner and some Gath if your in PDX. I would think that the kayak shops would be a good bet, being kayakers travel upside down in search of speeding boulders. _________________ Gorge Performance
