Heya..

I'm flying over from Florida to kite at the gorge for the next couple weeks.. Looking at Windguru the forcast for the next 7 days looks pretty bleak.. Is that pretty accurate?

Any advice on locations in the area that might be better conditions than the main site at Hood River?

thanks so much..

It's July.

It's the Gorge.

It will be windy.

It is not unusual to get 28-29 windy days in July.

If it's not blowing West at the sandbar, it should be East at Stevenson.

If the Gorge isn't windy, the coast almost certainly will be.

Rufus was great today.

Don't worry.

Word. Nobody here looks at WindGuru for Gorge conditions... It's a pretty rare day in July/August that there isn't wind somewhere. Here are some forecast sites:

http://thegorgeismygym.com/?page_id=16
http://www.atmos.washington.edu/data/zone_report.KPQR.html
http://www.atmos.washington.edu/data/zone_report.KPDT.html

The last two sites aren't river specific forecasts, so look at the upper range of winds forecast for on the water winds in the Gorge.

Have fun!

As someone already mentioned, Windguru doesn't accurately model wind in the Gorge.....not granular enough.

Someone already mentioned thegorgeismygym website. By far the most accurate forecast day-by-day. Unfortunately, she only updates for the morning of (doesn;t forecast for several days). But you are on vacation, so what do you care.

To get 2-3 day forecast, you gotta use ikitesurf.

Like everyone else said, it's July/August...
It's gonna be pimp'n around here.
The Gorge (hood river) isn't the only place around here to kite.
There's about a dozen other spots to hit within a few hours drive.
If the Gorge aint hitt'n cause it's too hot, boost over to the coast for some money sessions.

and...

thanks everyone for the help/advice/nerve calming.

When you live where we do, things are rarely consistent so we do a LOT of waiting waiting and waiting.. gear always at the ready.. for that sudden swing of weather.

I'd love to have what you do..

but in the winter.. I am very happy to be here.. Smile
