Fri Jul 09, 10 6:19 am OT: MTB this weekend in HR |
|
|
So seeing as how it looks like it will be 100+ degrees this weekend, I thought it would be prudent to bring my MTB and got for a ride. I was looking for some advice.
I will have my bike locked to the back of my truck. Should I park at the event site when kiting or will my bike get jacked? It is just an older hardtail, nothing fancy, but it will be in plain view.
What are some good trails to ride near HR? Nothing too crazy DH style, I was thinking more of a sweet singletrack wtih rad views of the river or something? Anything like that around?
anything else to be aware of when biking in HR?
thanks

Guess it depends on how in shape you are. If I were you I would head to the higher elevations as it will be a bit cooler. If you haven't biked here before I would say surveyors ridge trail to dog river loop. Higher elevation and rad views of mt. hood. Dog river is all down hill. I dunno how long but around 4 miles or so I would think?
take lots of water and leave the tinfoil body suit at home. _________________ Bury me standing cause I won't lay down!!

You might want to recheck your weather forecast, I don't see anything saying 100+ this weekend. Should be around 80 to 90 max. And good wind.
And isn't there some sort of kiting event this weekend at the event site? Dunno, but might be better than MTB'g.

Sweet! I will give that trail a try. In looking at 'the internet', that trail seemed pretty sweet. I am still undecided about the tinfoil body suit, however. I feel soo fast when I am wearing it.

my forecast was from an unreliable source anyway, I like yours better. I think there is a small event in HR this weekend, not too sure what it is though . I have heard that the biking in HR is pretty sweet and I thought a pre- or post-kite MTB would be pretty bad ass.
thanks

Going too fast and shoulda put a smiley in my original post. all good! The wind is back, blowing 20mph from the West in Stevenson right now. Heading down to cool off and relax a bit before going to HR this evening. Looking forward to KB4C tomorrow. Stoked that the weather switched back around.

Go ride Surveyors Ridge. Up HWY 35 (towards Mt Hood Meadows). Take a Left on HWY 44 and go about 5 miles. You will see a Forest Service sign/parking area on the left for Surveyor's Ridge. Most people ride it as a shuttle down to Sawtooth Pizza, but you can do it as an out/back. Great single track, cooler temps, and incredible views of the valley and Mt Hood.
Grab a map or more info at Dirty Finger's bicycle shop on the heights in HR.
Another good ride is 8 Mile loop. A little farther up hwy 44. |
