I read this last night and I just got sick.
Dammit we're in a crack world where you can't drop your guard for one second. If you walk to the beach and you forgot your pump... I guess carry it all back to the car or find a friend quick to guard your stuff.
I got my car jacked again on the 4th of July in my home town of Tacoma. Slim-Jimmed my car and stole my Garmin (from the glove box). That's seven burglaries in three years. Hood River, Tacoma, it's all ghetto now.
Claire, I hope you get this stuff back quick, and I hope your team kicks ass at KB4C this weekend.
I wonder if a popular site like the Spit should have a paid locker/security vendor similar to what we see at ski areas watching over our snowboards & skis? _________________ CGKA Member

Not surprised by this. In May I was hanging out at the event site on a Monday hoping for more wind. I looked to the side on the grass near the table where I sat and found a baggie of meth. At that moment I realized that place is not safe. It is sad and disgusting. So sorry for Claire. I will keep my eyes peeled. _________________ Gun control means hitting the bulls eye... |

With the high influx of people who live in their vehicles in town, I'm not surprised. I've seem some sketchy people working the intersection by the highway. One in particular with short blonde dreads, a dog, and an attitude. I'd kick his ass on general principal. I'll keep an eye out too. _________________

That is why you see me hauling all my equipment out to the snatch patch. Even then I worry when I am out. |

Really a bummer Claire. Hopefully you get some luck with finding your goods.
One small benefit is this will cause awareness to everyone because the combination of a very popular and expensive sport will only brings problems and the Event Site will always have little d-bag thieves. Grabbing a bag and board is a very natural looking thing and hard to notice as illegal activity.
From the Event Site parking lot I sunscreen up, pick my kite, board and bar....lock my car key and don't take one thing tangible. I have to pimp a pump but there are always dozens laying on the grass so just ask and somebody is always cool about letting me borrow it etc.
If you do want to take an extra kite and board....haul it all the way to the Sandbar or just use the Spit access area. I have left my car unlocked, sandals, bag etc all over the Spit area and have never had an issue. Just something to think about.
Regarding a surveillance camera....great idea...but takes money. GorgeNet, The Port and CGKA have the talent to create something like this and maybe establish a "donation" fee if somebody wanted to view the video recording. Maybe a local HR security company would be up for it??? Regardless, I'd throw down cash just to catch one of these mo-fo's. |
