Please keep in mind that kiters should follow the signage that has been posted here. The high water is no excuse to be a douche.

First, if you are a beginner, your best bet is to find the little strip of exposed sand just north of the Sandbar parking lot.

-Kiters will have to rig on the far east side denoted as the pump and dry area.
-Kiters will have to walk out into the water to launch.
-Kiters need to be NORTH and EAST (downwind) of ANY beach goer, even if the beach goer is in the yellow "Kiteboard Launch Area".

Use of the Marina beach is on a TRIAL basis this year and can be taken from us. Please follow the signage and use your best judgment.

hey forrest,

this is great, i didn't know that you could launch from the marina now. my family likes it there and it is a pain to drop them off and drive all the way back around to the spit to launch. looks like my donation to the CGKA is working! thanks a bunch.

I am super stoked about this family friendly spot as well. Super cool to have some grass and beach for the kids to play on while I go kiting.

Forrest makes a VERY good point. The marina launching privilege is a TRIAL to see if kiteboarders can actually follow the rules. Please review the graphic that Forrest attached, as you can see, you are required, and expected to launch away from the beach.

For those that are thinking "awesome" a safe shallow water place to launch from your kind of mistaken. Forrest..please chime in if I got it wrong, but based on the Port Meeting minutes, this was meant as an alternative launch for highly experienced kiters. When launching from here you have to cross the Hood River "whirlpool of despair" and if something goes wrong and you can't get your tippy toes on that little sand island.. your first stop is going to be the bridge.

As always, a little common sense and courtesy will go a long way. I can only imagine what would happen however if someone from the Port took a stroll down to look at people launching and there were all kinds of douchebags launching upwind of little children.

MonkeyBoy, you're exactly right.

The Port is finalizing signage for the Marina beach as we speak.
