I am planning a camping/kiteboarding trip the second week of June. I am new to the sport and have never gone along the Washington/Oregon coast. I am wondering what are some quality spots to kite and to camp. Any information would be helpful! It will be a six day trip along the coast.

Hum, new to the sport and want to kite in the ocean?

Oxymorons:

Jumbo Shrimp
Airline food
New kiter wants to kite in the ocean.

If your new to the sport, try Will Brady's place down south of Bandon, OR, by about 20 miles. AKA Floras Lake. . .

Agreed....instead of doing a coast tour plant yourself at Floras lake and progress. No doubt the best place on the Oregon coast to learn.

Floras has a great campground with cheap hot showers and is only a short walk to the launch.

Ok, I'll rephrase. I am going with a friend who is very experienced. I will not be kiting on the ocean. Just looking for info of where best to camp/ride.

Ok then some must hit spots would be:

Camping at Floras lake and doing downwinders at Whskey Run (about 30 min north of Floras).

Camp and ride in Florence, it has some great camping and conditions.

Camp and ride in Newport.

Camp and ride in Lincoln City. Good chunk of ocean for riding and it also has Siletz Bay for flat water.

Pacific City could be another good spot to camp and ride.

Netarts bay again has some great flatwater on the inside of the river mouth and decent swell on the outside.

Camp at Nehalem State park and ride at Manzanita...always seems o be windy here when the rest of the North strip is dead.

Camp at Ft Stevens state park and do some great downwinders from Lot B to Shipwreck at Ft Stevens.

Probably some other good spots that I left out...

I think Chooch Pretty much nailed it Thumb's Up

Those gotta be the best spots on the coast. Manzonita is easily predictable and reliable spot. You can count on it going most days in May and June. It has been freaking awsome at Manzo the last two weeks!! Good times...good times...

There are tons of camp grounds along the way, if you stay at fort stevens state park or the hammond koa reserve now cause it always is booked up.

Working at the coast next week and looking for the spots in Newport and Florence. I hit the search button and came up with S. Jetty on a north wind, and Agate on a south (?), but didn't have any info on Florence. Anybody have any other good spots down that way?

Thanks!

Florence S Jetty and Newport S Jetty have some of the best kiting in Oregon. Cleaner waves due to the jetty and generally good wind. Florence can fog in often.

Beverly beach north of Newport is another good spot with camping right there.

Generally, the further south you go the windier it will be with Pistol River just south of Gold beach being a very windy spot...bring your 5m.

have fun!!

You kite at Beverly beach? I go there a lot with the family to play around on the rocks when we are staying at the WorldMark in Gerhart. I never considered kiting there. I would always make the drive up to Roads End to kite. If you do kite there - how is it? It looks like there are a lot of kelp beds from the shore. The shore break looks kinda harsh sometimes also.

Beverly's alright... Not as fun as SJ, but it works and is close when you're camping (A loop Yurts). Mid summer, I'm just about always slightly under 10m.

You guys are killing me with all this talk of sweet spots on the coast. I'm jonesing bad for some coastal kiting. My favorite spots are Manzo and Ft Stevens on NW winds and Cannon Beach and Seaside/Gearhart for SW winds.

Go get some!

Blaze - Beverly is often windy and sunny when S. Jetty is fogged in. Not always but often in my experience.

Roads End at the very north end of town is the most popular. Park in the round turn out just past the larger parking lot.
