Fri May 07, 10 2:54 pm where can I crash in Hood River? |
|
|
Can anyone give any advise on a low budget place to stay in Hood river?
(from the +/- 20th of May until the 30th)
It does not need to be much.
A 1 person room with a bed, a bathroom, a bit of electricity and if possible wifi, is all I need.
I've heard that it should be possible to find something reasonably affordable, because most tourist stay away until the end of June.
(sorry I'm so early I'll try to behave)
If you have any tips please post them here, or send me a PM
Thanks,
Martin |

End of next week I'll be in a Portland hotel for the first 4 days of a 2 week vacation.
I've been told that driving these 60 miles back and forth every day can be a bitch and that most days the Sandbar or Rufus are going to be the spots where I'll want to be anyway.
So after these first couple of days I'm thinking of moving to Hood River.
My company invited me to a meeting in Portland
Having never been to the US, I decided to add 2 weeks of vacation to the trip.
Afterwards finding out that the Gorge has the best freaking kiteboardspots in the US was a really nice added bonus.
The euro/dollar rate is (still) in my favor (today) but this trip was really unexpected and financially could not have come at a worse time, so I'm trying to save costs as much as I possibly can.
I have even played around with the idea of exchanging my compact rental car for a rental minivan I could sleep in.
Over here I own a VW-van that I use for kiteboard and snowboard trips so I’m very much used to that level of ultimate flexibility.
The downside of that idea is that I would have to buy things like a sleeping bag and mattress, cooking gear and a lamp etc. to get that minimum amount of comfort I need to consider it a fun trip.
I'm way to much of a cheap bastard to buy all these things and then just leave them behind after 10 days, so it’s probably better to just find a cheap hotel or room that has the added comfort of heating, electricity and possibly wifi.
Like I said, if you have any tips please let me know Last edited by Martin_6453 on Fri May 07, 10 3:38 pm; edited 1 time in total |

P.S. I don't have a guest room but I am checking around. If anyone else has something then go ahead and post. |

There's also a hostel called Bingen School House directly across the river from Hood River, minutes to the launch at the sandspit.
Prices are cheap:

I see for $19 you get a bed in a converted school room with partitions. Cooking facilities. I think you still need a cheap Walmart sleeping bag, unless the beds are made up... $25?
Call them before you purchase a bag. _________________ CGKA Member

I commute from pdx to HR 3-4 times a week and it's not that bad. Takes an hour . You can tent camp near HR but the hostel sounds like a good option.
I'll be doing stream surveys all next week in Nappa valley but the following week your welcome to car pool with me. Leave pdx around 8 return around 5.
Pm if interested |

I stayed there a few years ago. Super chill. If I remember right the beds were made.

Looks nice.
Their extended stay rates are also very decent for a private B&B room.
Difinitly on my list of places I will check once I'm there. |

I'm an extremely light sleeper so yes I want to keep the price as low as possible, but I simply won't be able sleep in a dorm room.
Sleeping is a minimum requirement.
But thanks for the tip
I definitlly like their motto : "We're affordable!"
I will check their single rooms once I’m there. |

nope, canadians were abusing the privilege. Also it's bad biz for local camp grounds to have the Wal Mart parking lot open _________________ BIP- "YOUR GIRLFRIENDS FAVORITE" |
