Is Maryhill State Park kite friendly?

Looking for some options if it's cloudy in the corridor tomorrow and the fishermen at Rufus suck. I saw a guy last weekend get caught on a anchor rope after his bridle broke. Finally he got untangled then his kite went under the next boat downstream.

Never launched there but I know you can. I think its just a bit sketchy. If you really want to get after it then head the extra 1/2 hour east to Roosevelt/Arlington. Sick campground and great chunk of the river.

Anyone in the know on whether there will be a lot of people fishing out there tomorrow? It would seem that from the forecast the wind will be in the 30+ range.

How's the launch at Roosevelt? Still working on staying upwind...would that be a problem there if I'm sent downwind?

You can come in on the Washington shore, not to bad with booties. I remember some ground cover plants with thorns as you walk up to the access road.

launch is in a wind shadow. no major consequences if your not on it, but not beginner friendly either. the river is big and wide there, if you have a hard time staying up wind, or up at all, it would be a long swim/walk. fwiw, i have walked .5 mile as a result of failing to stay up wind.

hey scribble,

i have launched from Maryhill at the very west end but, the river has to be low in order to do this. you also have to be a camper to get into that area. i have tried from the swimming area early in the season but, it's really sketchy and my kite dropped right onto the rocks.

you could also try Peach Beach but, again, the river has to be really low to make it out.
