Just a friendly reminder that our launching and landing access at the Event Site concludes as of April 30th (last day). Don't worry it will be back Oct 1st.

After April 30th, kiteboarders can only pumping and drying kites at the Eastern end of the Event Site. Same rules as last year.

Due to everyone's help last year following the rules,
The Port of Hood River has agreed to an additional expansion of area for the kite community to use for pumping and drying for the 2010 season (Thank you CGKA)
However, this new designated boundary may not be in place just yet, so for the moment, it would be best for everyone to use the existing boundary marker (shallow dirt ditch line from parking lot to water starting at the kiteboarding info sign).

PLEASE MAKE THE EFFORT TO PASS ALONG AND SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH ALL KITEBOARDERS THAT YOU ARE IN CONTACT WITH BOTH ON AND OFF THE BEACH.

OUR ABILITY TO FOLLOW THE RULES THAT WE ESTABLISH WITH THE PORT OF HOOD RIVER DIRECTLY RELATES TO THE PRIVILEGES THAT WE RECEIVE EACH TIME WE MOVE FORWARD WITH THIS ONGOING AND IMPROVING RELATIONSHIP.

Courtesy of your local Columbia Gorge Kiteboarding Association.

Thanks again for your help following these rules.

Mark Barnes
President CGKA

A special THANK YOU to Mark and Forrest who have continued to improve/expand the kite pump/dry area via positive meetings and relationship building with the Port of Hood River.

In addition, it should be noted that the Executive Director for the Port of Hood River, Michael McElwee, has been a consistent supporter of the expansion and safety needs of the kite community. It's hard to always make the right decision, but from the start of his employment at the Port, he has always recognized that there is a need to accommodate the ever growing sport of kiteboarding.

So,

I just finished up a light wind session about 5pm on Sat. and noticed a group of Italian speedo wearing dudes pumping up a kite right in the middle of the windsurf area.

I watched for a while and was hoping that somebody else would tell them they can't. So, I walk over and tell them where to go.

LOL, Speedos

Yea, it's going to take a little effort on everyone's part to keep things moving smoothly.
