Nice! How far off shore is the Lanikai reef break?

Both Sunday and Today the wind was kick ass with huge surf. Riding a 7.5 at Lanikai reef. Finally Yay.

Nice photo!

I leave the beach during tsunami warnings basically to avoid crowds. The general public tends to amass there to see what a tsunami looks like... humans is such smart creatures!

My thoughts and prayers go out to those in Chili.

Nice pic. There has been so many whales this season. Last time I went SUPing a whale came almost all the way out of the ocean jumping. They are huge. I am glad he was some ways away.

How far out Lanikai reef is depends on how big the waves are. The bigger the further out. The reef line goes from the Mokulua islands, behind and to the left of flat island, but the bigger the waves the further out they break. We've had sessions that are way way outside of flat island. The good thing about these waves is that they even when big are reasonably forgiving. Not at all like the north shore stuff, which pretty much pummels you. They can be intimidating still though. Some are meaner than others too though...You'll see them as you start moving out behind flat.

The biggest problem is the inside reef line which is pretty much exposed unless it is high - high tide so if you get caught on the inside you might have to do a little slalom riding...or just give up a fin Smile
