The SF Chronicle reported 13 injured including 2 with broken bones. If you've ever been to Pillar Point you'd know how pointless it is to try to view 6'-tall surfers screaming down 45' wave faces from half a mile away. Even after climbing the cliff by the sign that says "don't climb this cliff" and hopping the fence into the gov't radar installation that says "don't hop this fence or you'll be shot" you still can't see much. My neighbor has a commercial fishing boat in HMB and took me out in the winter of `94 to see the action from the trough (back in the days before the media frenzy). It is LOUD!! I snapped a blurry shot of Clark screaming down a face; back then many guys still paddled into it! We were there a few days before Mark Foo died.

These days I wouldn't be caught anywhere near the place during a surf competition (or weekend for that matter).
