Hey, been in portland for almost a week mainly jobsearching(know of any.. ha), but am dying to get in the water. I was checking iwindsurf and sauvie island is around 15 and appears to be rising. I'll love a good 20 for my 12 meter. Any thoughts on whether sauvie would be a good spot for an afternoon session today. I keep finding current wind reports, but can't seem to find any forcasts other than weather.com. Any good sites i should know about? or info on launching at sauvie... i really know nothing about the spot.

-Kyle

Dude, sauvies is generally rideable on a north wind. Right now its a south wind. You would be going with the current. So I would guess staying upwind would be pretty damn difficult. You could try it and do a downwinder. I'm guessing its going to be pretty damn gusty though.

If you gotta ride today - check out rooster rock. A friend of mind called me up 1/2 an hour ago and let me know there was wind. I can't get outta work so I can't make it. But that may be the way to go.

If you do decide to go wherever - check up at the top of this page under "Spots" lots of info on most of the riding spots around here.

BTW - Kyle, what kind of work do you do? If you are job searching there may be people on the forum who can hook you up.

Sauvies would be a bad idea right now. Usually if it rains in Portland you should wait 2-3 days before kiting at sauvies due to waste water run off. Plus its typicaly a spring/summer thermal spot so the wind there in the winter is garbage.

Your best bet this time of year is the coast. Much warmer water than the Columbia this time of year.

Or you could hit Rooster Rock on an east wind day...its usually gusty and cold but if your hard up for a session then it can be done.

Check the Forecast page up top for some links

Thanks for the advice guys. I thought about posting a 'job wanted' topic, but decided not to because i know sometimes it's frowned upon to post non-related topics for personal gain... at least it was on a surfing forumn i use to check (althought surfers can be angry people sometimes)... but if you think it's alright, i'll go ahead and do it. I've got a degree in math education (although now slightly turned of to that idea...would consider tutoring math) ,but now just looking to do anything. Been checking out construction and roofing jobs. but like i said anything!

Wilso - you could also post up in the "For Sale" Section what you are looking for - people use that for all kinds of stuff.

Sent you a PM regarding job possibilities.

SI on a South wind is offshore and nasty air at launch due to the trees. It *mite* work on a SE, but the ponds would be a way better option on a SE.

SI for NW days if you live on the west side and you can't get anywhere else quick enough after work. It's also more beginner friendly on NW days than most other places close to town.
