This issue in Kiteboarding Mag we are doing a story on the Worst Sessions Ever. I Don't want to promote any painful kitemares but rather funny stories of when the shit hits the fan, like super long swims, or when Shawn wrapped his kite around the Pirate ship in Hood River. (Please tell me someone has a photo of this)

I am looking for good stories or high res shots of something that looks like a worst sessions. (seaweed Wrapped bars, broken board, etc) if you have shots or stories, please post them here and i will follow up.

Thanks,

Aaron

This could be fun, but I would avoid posting shots of things like kites getting wrapped around a sailboat. That would be the wrong kind of press for a sport where many places we are still struggling for access.

Yeah...lets focus more on equipment failure than user failure.

Why would you want to promote kitemares, broken gear, and shark attack's? I guess this info is good but why not promote wakestyle, snowkite or beautiful places to kite in a mag. That's what I would like to read about... Kitemares, bunk gear, attack chatter is something the forums are good at... At the moment this doesn't sounds like a good article for a magazine because I would never want to read about bad sessions or broken gear in a snowboarding mag complete waste of time in my PPOV when there are some many other great things to write about.

I could be wrong... Rolling Eyes

Forrest, when you gonna post up the vid of Geno and I tangling kites in offshore wind at Punta San Carlos? We barely made the point by swimming our asses off. I'd say that was a very solid crappy session followed by untangling 8 lines.

Also, getting hogtied in my lines/bridle on a solo downwinder with no wind and the sun setting while floating around the Nehalem jetty for 45 minutes would qualify. Going through the head and a half surf hogtied to my kite was pretty exciting.

I don't think it's about promoting...but providing something interesting for the everyday kiter. Reading about the fully caddied, trust-fund crew migrating around to all the magical spots I will probably never get to, gets a little old after a while.

Sounds like a cool story to me. Way better then hearing a bunch of lame hype about which new kite is the sickest of them all.

I would say just be careful about writing stories about equipment failures.

Remember who pays for advertising in the magazine. Giving them bad publicity could hurt the relationship with the magazine.

definitely a tricky story to write but if you keep the vendors happy and still somehow present the sport in a positive light it could be a real winner.

I know snow sport magazines and surf magazines often talk about a particular location as a very intimidating spot that will eat you up and spit you out if you don't know what you're doing. maybe a story about a similar spot in the kiting world would be a good example of an interesting read littered with stories of close calls and the struggle to ride a particular spot to get that sweet moment to make it all worth it.

maybe an article on kooks could be good too. the do's and don'ts of kiting and common first timer mistakes

I can think of lots of reasons to write a story like this, but yeah it will be a bit tricky. Focusing on what you learned or how it made you a more prepared sailor would be a good aspect.

Should the media just report good things?
I really like well rounded media, and kitemares keep you in check.

Why not write about EPIC sessions (sorry shymac, I could not resist), or secret spots, or how to get started riding with a pulley bar or maybe a how to do strapless tricks.

Why not do an article on progression. Beginners hit list of things to accomplish, Intermediate list, Advanced list, etc. You could break it down to surf style, wake style, free style. Dude the list is end less......

anybody that was kiting in the gorge the day seansean wrapped his kite around the the tall ship knows that it NEEDS TO BE IN A MAG! that was so funny seeing him shlog-wakeboarding behind that thing! there has to be some good shots of it out there somewhere!

i like crash sections, it makes everyone (we all do at some point) that has kitemares realize that it IS a part of our sport!
