Right now, where would you go for reliably wind, and waves?
I have the next 4-6 weeks off(possibly more), an expiring lease, a healthy unemployment check, and a disdain for the shit winter that we are having. Im not interested in flat water, I am interested in warm water. For a point of reference I hit N. Peru last fall, and would love similar conditions. Costa Rica? Brazil? Barbados? Bali?

Where would you go?

Byron Bay Oz. Good waves, consistent wind, sunshine, and topless beaches = more smiles per mile Mr. Green

I would go to Punta San Carlos, Baja. Cheap, warm, and really is the best wave riding on the planet.

Agreed. What a blast we had out there. You still need a 5/3 but you don't need booties, gloves, or a hood.

PSC is great, but check the roads. They got pounded with rain this winter and I would guess that the road is a real mess.

It really depends on what you want. San Carlos cranks in Spring starting around March, but NW swell doesn't wrap well in there (South facing bay) so SW swells translate to much bigger waves. A 10ft NW swell is similar to a 5ft SW swell. In Spring more swells are NW. Also, waves are long and smooth with side-off wind, but they're pretty rampy. Fun to ride, but if you're jonesing a more critical wave you won't find it there. Finally in the Spring you'll probably have thigh to chest high waves most days. You'll get some head high plus days too if you're lucky, but don't count on it. I think Norcal should be firing right now for an easy place to get to. Otherwise probably hit the Southern hemisphere.

Not sure how the wind is in PSC compared to Barilles/ La Ventana, but Baja Sur has been almost without wind for the past few weeks. Not sure if this translates up north, but it would be worth looking into before going.

The wind almost completely dies off by mid March and it gets hot! At least you'll have warm beaches to drink on!

genek is right on
winter is usally swell and no wind, lucky to get both
spring wind and sometimes swell
summer, tons of wind, no swell...unless you time a southern swell
could be a long wait, siting in the dust under a tarp smokin shity green
usually late fall is a good call
mush burgers except for the chlili bowl...kinda bleak wave really

Barbados is pretty nice right now, been there a few times
usually swell and wind with tropical temps
stay at

never been to oz, good bet though
or pichilemu chile is like santa cruz in the 50's with wind and left handers all around

I wouldn't bother with Costa Rica for wave riding.

Nicaragua is great (and waay cheaper) but you need a boat. (And in some spots a wetsuit).

As it turns out I will be heading to Nicaragua for work. Care to share any details on what to hit?

Yep, PSC is mostly smallish fat waves as Gene said. fun for sure but its also really windy which sometimes makes it hard just to stay in the wave. If you do catch it with a big swell the waves gets a bit more punch to it and is loads of fun.

Here in Oz (East Coast) we are in the wind and swell window that lasts for 3 months or so. mostly beach breaks with a point here and there. warm wind and waves in the shoulder to just overhead size. Winds are typically 15-20. its almost a perfect set up but there isnt a good point set up with exposure to the wind, so its mostly riding beach breaks and finding some banks. good fun though come on over. Very Happy
