John, there is a special craigs list unit but I would just call any detective at the local precinct. I would initiate contact with the guy who he thinks has the stuff and tell them your interested, have cash, and live in Vancouver or somewhere that the victim doesn't live.

Gman, take good notes!!

experienced this 2 summers ago. Someone stole my board from my car. I found the person selling it on craigslist. Somehow I took a picture of my board with the serial number on it before it was stolen. So lucky enough I can use it as a prove. I reported to the police about the stolen item and the post on craigslist.

Then I call up the local detective to follow up, but they seems to careless. At that point the person is selling it around 400 and that board is brand new which is a "steal" for everyone. (The tag price is $699 = Grand theft). I was worry that someone is going to buy it before the cops going to do anything about it. So basically I was on my own.

I gathered up a few colleague for help. Total of 4 people. One for contacting the seller, one for distracting the seller and one for overlooking everything and me sitting in the car waiting for the right moment to shows up.

Here is how it works. Set up a time and place to meet up with the seller then call up the police ahead of time to let them know about the situation and might need back up once the seller items have been identified as stolen(bring proves).

Park your car away from the seller. Two of my colleague went and meet with the seller and my third colleague is across the street looking over everything and staying close with me. After they have found the board is actually mind, one of my colleague told the seller that he needs to go to an ATM to get some cash....instead he went and call up the police for presence and back up. My other colleague would be chilling with the seller in case he runs away, my colleague was acting very interested with the board and basically holding it the whole time while waiting for the police.

Once the cops show up with my colleague, the seller realized he got no where to run. They show the cops prove and the seller is cuffed and put in the back of the cop car.

Then it was save for me to show up and show the cops the police report and other information. They took a statement and I was good.

After all that we asked the cops what would be the best way to handle this. They said we did it right and make sure cops are there during the time.

I was able to take my board back right away and no calls from the police about it.

Sorry this is long but I think everyone should know how to handle this.

Kitelooping,

EY

You may want to ask Phil to take this post down and talk about this off line. I have seen thieves get scared away from a sale and there was speculation that the person was reading nwkite. Who knows why people do what they do - but I really hope you catch this jack ass!! Just gotta keep it on the DL.
