PLEASE HELP ME AND THE GLOBAL KITEBOARDING COMMUNITY BY SIGNING THIS PETITION!

IT TAKES LESS THAN A MINUTE TO DO!!!

HERE IS THE LINK...

www.ipetitions.com/petition/kiteboardamistad/

I moved to Del Rio, TX from Seattle, WA and I found out that kiteboarding is not allowed on a huge, consistently windy, and perfect lake 20 minutes from the city.

They allow just about every other activity, but the superintendent of the lake has a personal bias against kiteboarding. I have met with him and put together a presentation and plan that challenged his views and started to peak some interest.

He has the power in a moments notice to change the policy and allow kiteboarding.

The only thing left, that he needs to change his mind, is to have public support of kiteboarding.

I HAVE PUT TOGETHER AN ONLINE PETITION FOR ALL SUPPORTERS OF KITEBOARDING TO SIGN.

PLEASE HELP ME AND THE KITEBOARDING COMMUNITY BY SIGNING THIS PETITION.

IT TAKES LESS THAN A MINUTE TO DO! HERE IS THE LINK...

www.ipetitions.com/petition/kiteboardamistad/

With your support, we can help reflect kiteboarding in a positive maner as well as greatly improve the economy of Del Rio, TX by making a year round mecca for kiteboarding.

Thanks for your support and help.

Done. Good luck, I can't imagine moving to a place that close to a perfect lake and not being allowed to kite on it.

OMG Del Rio, you must have gotten double your salary to go there. My parents live in Devine, which is a total a hole. You might have passed through on the way down there. Awesome that you have a near by windy lake, I would have never thought.

You might want to start a community recreation association and try to get people to join. Recreation Groups can carry a bigger stick that you can alone. Signed and Good Luck.

Hey Nick, I support your petition. Signed it already.
Hope that in the future, I'm not the one trying to petition for my beach access.
I just want to understand your situation a little better.
Can you help me understand why it is banned?
Who is this person who can change that at a moment's notice?
Is the beach a public area or private property?
I just don't understand how one person (the superintendant) can say nope.
Was there a bad experience in the past?
Sorry for the 20 questions, I just want to better understand what you're dealing with.

good luck with your petition,
stringy

Signed but I appreciate Stringy's questions. We all have lakes we live by so the more information and details that can be provided will help push a larger scope of awareness.

Hey everyone. I just noticed that the petition site asks for a donation after you sign the petition. Your signature goes through without donating and I am sorry that this is happening. I did not know about this. Please pass the word and keep getting signatures for this petition.

Thank you for those who have already signed. You all are awesome!!!

Stringy,

thanks so much for your support and questions. To answer them in order:

It is currently banned because the superintendent of the lake feels it is not a "compatible" sport for the lake and that there is no public support of kiteboarding.
The compatible issue for him is the fishing on the lake. If you google the lake though you see that it is larger than the city of Del Rio, so space and compatability are not an issue. I put together a huge power point for the superintendent which answered his concerns regarding compatability, saftey, and conservation of kiteboarding. His last issue is with public support, which is why I'm doing this petition.

The superintendent of the lake is Alan Cox and he has the authority to permit or "outlaw" any activity on this lake.

The lake is a national recreation area so it is 100% public.
Alan cox cntrols this lake and is in charge of supporting the public interest. Right now fishing is the only agenda for the del rio community and kiteboarding has never been on the agenda so they decided to take it away. They would take away waterskiing as well if they could because fishing is a economic powerhouse for the city. They would have an uproar if they did though and they have never had opposition to the ban on kiteboarding until me.

I heard a rumor of one idiot that bought a kite on eBay, didn't take any lessons and hurt himself and others but I can't validate this.

My plan for the lake is as such, the park requires an annual lake use permit for boat users, and they have to go into the visitors center to receive the permit. I proposed to require kiters to purchase this permit, and when they went to get their permit, they would present their IKO or PASA certification to proove they are A. Insured, and B. Knowledgable on safe kiting practices. This would also give the park service the opportunity to explain launch areas as well as specific guidelines and warnings about the lake. It a good plan because the infrastructure is already there.

I hope this gives you a better idea and if you or anyone has other questions please don't hesitate to ask

requiring IKO or PASA certification to kite at spots is not what we need...
